Does anyone have an explanation about this Hotel Rwanda (movie) scene?

Paul has just seen the "Road of Death" covered in corpses. He returns to the hotel, and is in the staff showers. He is trying to tie his tie, but it doesn't work. He tries again, and fails, and he has a small breakdown. Is it just the stress of everything that causes this, or am I missing a critical point?

Let's say you witness hundreds of people dead in the middle of the roads where you live...now tell me if you can concentrate on whatever you are doing.

I think it is just the stress and overwhelming emotions. He just saw all of those people dead in the street and here he is getting ready to go to work like nothing at all is happening around him. I think guilt is what made him so stressed and feeling helpless.
