Growing up in a "beer State" like Wisconsin has really opened my eyes to the myth that wine is snobby. Far from it! Now, I'm not the guy in "Sideways" that screams that I'm not drinkin' Merlot! However, I'm also not the guy that swills the stuff, nods twice and says that it's simply okay.

I'm right in between. I have found that the people that don't like wine, or all think that a "good" bottle of wine is always $60, really don't get it. I had my wine epiphany when I was about 25. I had always drank cheap or bad wines, but didn't know it. Then, one night, I was at a relatively expensive restaurant on business and an older gentleman ordered a bottle of wine. He showed me how to smell it, taste it and all I can say is, "wow", from that point forward, I realize that I'm a wine guy.

I also don't subscribe to the notion that if a guy orders a Chardonnay at a bar, that he's automatically gay. I bartended for 8 years and although I'm a flaming heterosexual, the myth of guys only drinking beer or Jack Daniels to be cool, well, I think it's not accurate.

Red wine in moderation can indicate that someone is trying to be heart healthy and is interested in a longer lifespan. When I was younger and not humbled by life experiences, I drank white wine with others. These women were the types to look down on anyone less fortunate than themselves, were feeling entitled to everything, even at the unfair expense of others. These narcissistic mothers caused pain to everyone, especially their children, and were incapable of love in it's most genuine sense. Those who mix white wine with fruit to make fun drinks weren't like that. They didn't drink very often and just don't like the strong taste of alcohol.
