What impact would National Healthcare have on American society?
I know a large number of people who are working at jobs they don’t necessarily like because that job gives healthcare benefits.
Who will take those jobs if healthcare is free?
Will we lose good workers to lesser positions because they don’t need benefits?
How many people will stop working entirely?
Benefits are a great incentive. What effects, large and small, will the loss of that incentive have on our overall economy, society, and culture?

Hey thanks for the geography/semantics lesson. Are you just popping by every ‘America’ question just to make that same observation? Not the best way to contribute, I’d think.

1. Reduced wages and longer hours for doctors = less doctors
2. Longer waits and lower quality care due to less doctors
3. No new drugs due to fixed prices on pharmacuticles straining R&D budgets.
Government dumbing down on the quality of medicine just as they have done with education.
The government needs to stay out of the private sector.

Its not really a step towards a communist dictatorship but it is a step towards the EU style socialism which is in the process of failing miserably. People are responsible for providing for their own basic needs. The world does not owe you a house, food or clothing. These things are to be earned by your own two hands. Healthcare is just an extension of that, it is not a necessity to have great health care. It is a luxury that you can afford. As it stands now, nobody gets refused emergency treatment because they dont have a health care plan. Socialized health is the same as any other socialized benefit. The people that pay for it are being robbed to provide benefits to people that havent earned them. Why should my family's quality of life be deteriorated to provide someone else with benefits they cannot or will not earn themselves? To top it all off, the government is incredibly inept at running anything, if they take over healthcare the quality, quantity and availability WILL decrease. Just take one look at how screwed up social security or the IRS is and its a no brainer to say that government run health care is a terrible idea. If Canada's health plan is so spectacular, then why are all the doctors along the US northern border booked with so many Canadian patients?

FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.
FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.
To answer your questions, if a company does not have to pay for healthcare, wages can go up, therefore people might stay for the money. Or they can keep the healthcare instead as well as having access to universal health cover.
And if universal healthcare came in, which it will not, people would still need to earn money. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/table/2008/oct/01/... Remember, Obama did not campaign to bring in universal health care.
Hope that helps.

I don't think people would leave their jobs... I think they could get medical treatment! And the only ones who would lose jobs are the pesky collection agencies

Think you mean the United States not America.
Remember
America = continent with 37 nations
United States = one of those nations
