rear axles 1985 gmc jimmy?
i have this jimmy that i just pick up and it has the stock rear end which has 2.73 gears the truck has a lift with 38s on it would it be better off to buy a rear end with higher gears or rebuild the one i have 10bolt i was thinking about the 14 bolt? and how easy is it to change out the axles ?

if its 4x4 i would just replace what you got unless money is no object then change out front and rear gears to match

What ever you decide to do, Make sure that the gear ratio in the rear matches the ratio in the front! If you dont then you'll be replacing them both anyway! I assume that the engine in that jimmy is a 5.7 deisel. And i'm almost certain that the gears are not 2.73 they are probably 3.73 That is a good driving gear even for 38's. Unless you are building it to go off road alot. If you drive this jimmy on a daily basis I would'nt change them.
