Show Dog Preparation - Whisker Face Cheek Sucking?

I am doing the preparation on 2 Dobermann

for a dog show on Monday (Public Holiday in Australia).

I would like to know if anyone has any tips or special secret

(Shh I promise I won't tell anyone - or you can email it LOL)

tricks to trim the whiskers on the face nice and close.

My two have mastered the art of pulling a face so that the whiskers seem to suck right back into their cheeks, so that when I think I am done they smile at me and all the whiskers "poof" appear again!! LOL

It makes me laugh but it is frustrating as I end up having to pull their little cheeks tighter and try and get close in. I would like to do it once instead of 2 or 3 times.

My trimmers are sharp so that isn't the problem -

it is just that they are so good at pulling a sucky face :)

I would appreciate any help from Breeders and Show Dog People.

Thank you in advance.

Update:

I use an electric beard trimmer with no comb on it as there fur is so short I can just use the care clippers to try and get the whiskers..

i will try sticking my finger in the mouth to keep them from sucking them back in! Lucky for me they just stand there and don't mind it..

As for the sticking the jaw out ROTFLMAO! My girl has a habit of clenching her jaws so the judge has to pry her mouth open - not always but sometimes - no matter how many people I ask to go over her mouth the little bi*t*ch still does it!! Gotta luv em LOL

I HATE when they do that! <G>

    Are you clippering or scissoring?

I have clippers, so I use a #10 or #15 blade on my dogs faces (backwards), but I think the Dobie people go even shorter. I pull the lip tight and try to get as close as I can without making the face look clippered.

Failing that, if your dog is reasonably controllable what you have to do is put your finger inside the lip and push each whisker out individually, then cut it off with blunt-tipped shears. I only do this for the really stubborn ones.

Whiskers are used for canine and cats to be able to sense their way round interior the darkish, and sense in the experience that they could fit into small areas. they have comfortable nerves in them, so in case you reduce it, the animal will sense it. i'm particular that the hair round her mouth isnt too huge an problem, so I wouldnt threat it. EDIT: Sorry, I purely examine up on it and also you may infact reduce a canine whiskers, purely not a cats. they are nevertheless used as sensors so that is incredible now to not, yet you are able to. prepare canine have their faces sparkling shaven because it isn't plausible to clip the hair around the mouth without reducing some whiskers, as you're saying. Sorry back for the confusion! :S

    Ah, yup, ROFL

I just stick my finger inside their lip and push them out.

That's an easy one, now what do I do with a dog that thrusts his lower jaw forward whenever someone wants to look at his teeth?

His bite is perfect, but you would never guess it. I guess he thinks he needs to stick them out there so you can see them better.
