AMP Energy Talladega Race - Smoke or Smith?* READ MORE DETAILS FIRST?
I'm a NASCAR.com blogger, and this is still controversial. At the AMP Energy Talladega Race, did Smoke win or Regan Smith win. I say Regan Smith for these two simple facts. One, Smoke bumped Regan Smith with his back bumper forcing Smith below the yellow line and quoting Smith, "I didn't want to spin him out. Though, I bet it would have been a more exciting finish." If any true NASCAR follower remembers a few years back at the NEXTEL All-Star Challenge, Brian Vickers (25) spun out Mike Bliss (0) to advance into the main event. Two, Dale Earnhardt ten years ago could have driven through the grass and cross the line first and win. Now, the stupid yellow line cost a good driver a win and gave the win to the money maker Smoke, not Smith.

I hear ya and agree that Regan Smith truly won the race and the only reason NASCAR gave the win to Stewart is because he is a bigger name and hadn't won all season. All of the drivers seemed to remember hearing that you could pass below the yellow line when the checkered flag is in sight(regardless of what anyone says about NO PASSING BELOW THE YELLOW LINE,NO EXCEPTIONS).This is just another case of NASCAR making up the rules as they go.

Paul Menard won. He is the only person that didn't go below the line. of the top 3 drivers. Tony also forced a driver below the line which calls for a black flag. If it was me I would have just sent Tony to the wall and won the race with no question. If you do anything other than that the NASCAR penalizes you. Regan Smith should have held his spot when he had a fender beside Tony while they were still above the line. By doing so Tony would have been the one that caused the wreck because he was blocking which is suppose to be against the rules.

In my opinion, The race winner should have been Paul Menard. Here is why, The rulebook states you cant go below the yellow line to advance your position. Regan Smith went below the yellow line, clearly, and advanced his position in doing so. On the other hand, the rulebook also states that you cant force a car below the yellow line in order for that car not to pass you. Tony Stewart clearly forced Smith below the yellow line, so therefore Tony Stewart should have been credited with a 18th place finish since he violated that rule. Why 18th? For one, he was second to the line, and two, since he forced Regan Smith below the yellow line, he violated the rule first. Regan Smith should have been credited with a 17th place finish since he was first to the line, but also violated the rule. So therefore if NASCAR really made a GREAT call like alot of people say, they really need to see that Tony Stewart forced Regan Smith below the yellow line. I mean if Stewart didnt force him, why would Smith go down there anyways? Below the yellow line was Smith's only option. Paul Menard should have been declared the winner. Not Stewart!

Nascarol. I was watching the race by tv of course, and i think that Regan never tried to cheat at any point of the race, especially in that moment, because Regan was gaining position before crossing the penalty line. Regan should never moved from his way he was in right direction, if Tony tried to move to the bottom, for sure he will be wrecked, why, like i said Regan at that was gaining position of Stewart. Regan lost the race, but more important for him, he gained experience, and i'm pretty sure that next time with the same situation, i bet you that he will not move not even an INCH.

(*)(*) rolls eyes.
(@) yawns.
(-)(-) goes back to sleep.
It's over, give it a rest.
There is NO PASSING BELOW THE YELLOW LINE!!! NO EXCEPTIONS, NO EXCUSES.
Your comparisons to Dale Sr., Mike Bliss and Brian Vickers make no sense. That's like complaining that the Jets and Giants got robbed during the 1987 season, so it's becasue of that that the Steelers lost the super bowl in 1996.
Give it a final resting place. It's 2009 and a new season already!

Stewart Won!
Based on the rules, Stewart should have won!
The decision in the past for Earnhardt - that was a gift.
The problem is the rule.
You should be able to race anywhere.
But, Stewart won the race, and should have won the race, with the current rules in place.

No offense but we have beat this dead horse way too much. Nascar decided it was Smoke. Smoke got the trophy. It ain't going to change....so let's move on and talk about 09 and let the ghosts of 08 rest. Just an opinion as always.

I'm over this, but I believe Regan Smith did win that race. Dale Jr. and Kyle Busch did the same thing before, and NASCAR didn't do anything about it. I thought it was unacceptable on NASCAR's part for them to do that to Smith when they allowed it in the past.

As a Smoke fan, Stewart won that race. But if I would have been in Smiths spot, I would have spun him when he blocked.
Rules state you can not go below the yellow line to advance your position unless you are Jr.

Smith faked Tony high, Tony fell for it and Regan had position, Tony went down and forced Regan under the line which is legal when forced meaning Regan won that race.
