So what would that make me?
Okay so I have a cousin named Katy, and she recently found out she's pregnant. But I was wondering, what would I be to the kid. A second cousin, a first cousin once removed...or something weird like that. Can't anyone explain the whole "cousin" thing?

okay. theres numerical cousins and theres removes.
numerically, cousins are determined by what generation you share. so if you share grandparents, first cousins. great grandparents, second cousins. etc.
removes are generational removes. so your cousins child will be your first cousin once removed, that childs child will be twice removed from you, etc.
so you will be first cousins once removed.

it would be your second cousin and her kid would be your third and so on. by law your not related after third cousin though. which only means your no longer considered incest. for marriage purposes.
