What was your pain level with an epidural?

I was just wondering, on a scale of 1-10, what your pain level was during L&D if you got an epidural. Also, how long did it take you to recover from the needle injection site post baby?

With my epidural the first time, I didn't have any pain, so a 1, I guess.

With my second baby, I only got a low dose of the epidural so the pain was about a 2, I could still feel everything, just not so severe. Like light cramping is all.

My back hurt a little for a couple days after delivery after both my girls were born, but within a week it was fine.

  • My pain level went from (on a scale of 1-10) a 12 (LOL) before the epidural to a 0. No pain whatsoever. I could still tell when I was having contractions and I had sensation "down there", but no pain whatsoever. It wore off completely after about 2 hours post-delivery.

I did have a horrible bruise at the site of the epidural though... it took about two weeks to completely fade, and it was pretty tender to the touch for about a week or so.

10 because I had back labor. For some reason (and I have heard this from other women too), epidurals do not help w/ back labor.

Recovering from the injection site - my back was seriously messed up for about 4 years in that spot. I could not do sit ups or anything that required putting pressure on my back. I believe the injection was done incorrectly.

I think my case is uncommon because I have not heard other women say they had pain for years. I am prego now and do not plan to get an eppy. I may have to have a csection and I am going to see if they can just put me under rather than eppy even though I will not be able to see the baby when he is born, I can't risk the pain or being paralyzed.

0... when the epidural was actually working!

it worked great and i took naps almost my whole labor, but i woke up from one of them and my epidural had settled on one side! i could feel the contractions coming full force! and this was NOT good especially since i had been induced with pitocin! then it was about a 10 on the left side. i had a c-section eventually.

i didn't have any issues at all recovering from the needle. it didn't occur to me that people did. i've had epidurals after other operations also, and i never felt the needle, in or out, at all whatsoever.

After I got my epidural, my pain was a 0. I didn't feel ANYTHING. Some people can still feel pressure, but in my case there was nothing. I think everything wore off about an hour after I had the baby.

No pain at all with the epidural. I didn't have any pain at the needle site either.

  • I was very comfortable with my first labor. NO pain, it was wonderful!! My second labor was a little more intense, but it was more so of pressure in my pelvic area which was painful but not due to contractions. The after pains were much much worse. The injection site really didnt bother me after they took the epidurl out.

0... honestly, I felt no pain. It did wear off, but I was still at a 7 at that point and had plently of time to get another dose. I didn't even feel it post baby, I got up within 30 minues post baby.

I was a little sore from the needle for about 2-3 weeks. It was just a dull ache, though. Not bad at all.

i only got given half dose so i could still feel pain but it was numbed out. didnt take long afterwards coz u sleep 4 a bit anyway before you attempt to stand up. my back where they put the needle in never hurt either its just a numb effect.
