Hi,
There are a number of ways to do this, some more effective than others.
First of all, if you smoke you should stop. Besides the health benefits you may see an immediate increase in your HDL (good cholesterol).
The next step is to start exercising. The opinions on how to best do this are all over the lot but I personally go with more intense but shorter exercise sessions and vary what you do day to day.
Ironically, there actually is a supplement that has been shown to raize HDL. It's niacin and it's part of the b-vitamin family.
The best part is it's not that expensive. The worst part is it has a troublesome (not really dangerous, but troublesome) side effect of flushing.
This is when your skin gets red and you feel "flushed". There are ways to mimize this.
Here's an article I wrote that went into a little more depth about niacin: http://www.curtmalexander.com/niacin-cholesterol.h...
Also, you may want to consider using Krill Oil. I'm not as sold on this for raising HDL (yet). But it does show promise. It's better tolerated than niacin but more expensive.
Here's an article I wrote about that:

The niacin tends to raise the HDL a little more than the Krill Oil but I have more experience with people using the niacin.
Finally, don't try to 'limit' cholesterol in your diet. I'm not saying you should go out and just eat bacon for every meal. But your body needs cholesterol for so many functions and the last 30 years have 'taught' folks that cholesterol is a killer.
Cholesterol is a killer if it sticks to your arteries and clogs them. But only when inflammation puts the process in motion.
Anyways, hope these suggestions help.
Best,
Curt

Healthy unsaturated fats (found in nuts and vegetable oils such as olive oil) will raise your good cholesterol (HDL), lower your bad cholesterol (LDL) and reduce your overall cholesterol. Oats, beans, peas and lentils are also very good.

Regular aerobic exercise, loss of excess weight (fat), and cessation of cigarette smoking cigarettes will increase HDL (good cholesterol) levels.
