Why doesn't Israel use its weaponry to intercept Hamas' rockets?

Israel has done well to portray itself as the victim in the conflict, trying to shift attention towards rockets being fired from a people that had their homeland taken from them 60 years and have suffered a lifetime of discrimination, dehumanization, and slaughter.

Now, Israel has the most sophisticated weaponry in the world. They have weapons such as the Arrow and anti-Ballistic missile systems - provided by American taxpayers to the tune of $7 million/day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow_missile

These weapons are thought to have the capability of destroying enemy missiles from 50 m away, are thought to be able to carry kilotons of material, and have striking ranges of 7000 km in some cases, powerful enough to reach Europe or distant targets in Asia.

Forget the fact that Israel violated the ceasefire first, forget the fact that Israel has been starving the 1.5 million people of Gaza to near famish. You really would have us believe that Israel's sophisticated weapons can't deal with Hamas' homemade Qassams? Give me a break.

Update:

You're missing the point, Israel has capabilities SUCH AS this powerful system. They surely must have other methods to take down such rockets.

Israel didn't shy from using white phosphorous, DIME explosives, etc. using Gaza as a testing laboratory. You really expect us to believe they can't deal with simple rockets? This most powerful military?

Um yeah well, do you think the innocent civilians use rockets? I think not. They use rocks. ROCKS. Against tanks, missiles, etc. Who's the real victim? The Israelis are the murderers! That just shows how much the Israelis are really cowards.

You may think they must have such a technologic capability, but that doesn't make it so. Such systems simply do not exist, in Israel, the US, or anyplace else.

You also seem to have bitten on the propaganda about Israel breaking the cease-fire first, and that Israel took away the homeland of people who'd planned on staying. It's much more complicated than that, and the Palestinian case much weaker than you portray. Likewise, Hamas has no valid gripe about the blockade, which is designed to prevent the previous situation in which Hamas and such groups were sending kids with bombs strapped to them into Israeli cities. They're trying to have things both ways, and that isn't smart unless you're playing from a position of strength.

Chocoes, by the way, unintentionally makes a point in support of the Israelis: the only reason for people to be throwing rocks at tanks is that it makes for good TV. Hamas is using these people as cannon fodder, hoping they'll be killed and then complaining when they are.

The Arrow, the Anti- Ballistic Missile systems are advanced.

    Nuclear weapons are advanced.

Iran has nuclear weapons, and many other countries in the middle east have advanced weapons, that are providing Hamas and Palestine with these.

Israel has few countries that provide it with support.

Israel did not violate the cease fire first, Hamas' pure intent to exterminate Israel which meant sending off rockets after the agreement was signed to stop the rockets. Israel had stopped firing.

    Hamas Charter:

"Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors. The Islamic World is burning. It is incumbent upon each one of us to pour some water, little as it may be, with a view of extinguishing as much of the fire as he can, without awaiting action by the others."

    Anti Ballistic Missile System

What Hamas is shooting is a short range missile & there is not time to register it on radar and prepare to shoot it down.

The definition below is something that goes long range,

What you would have to use on these is a gattling gun system that throws a lead shield in front of the missile, and you have to have some idea that it is coming and from where.

A ballistic missile is a missile that follows a sub-orbital ballistic flightpath with the objective of delivering a warhead to a predetermined target.

Its such a difficult situation in the mideast, you wonder if it will ever end.

They do that the best weaponry you are right, and could end this a long time ago. You make a great point.

Perhaps the State Department has something to do with it.

"You really would have us believe that Israel's sophisticated weapons can't deal with Hamas' homemade Qassams?"

Yes. Really. No one has weapons capable of countering Qassams and other small ordinance like it.

I am guessing that anti-ballastic missles are made to shoot down large long range missles. Like ICBM's, or Scuds. I don't think they are fitted to shoot down small rockets that are about the size of a large water bottle. That is like trying to use them to shoot down mortars.

yes, they have a missile defense system, not a home made cheesy rocket defense system, you ever try shooting a bottle rocket out of the sky?, not very easy
