Citigroup/Chase credit cards - both legal robbery. They ruined my credit via greed. What happens if I ..?

What happens if I refuse to pay them on the principal that they have been using the taxpayer bailout for bonuses and corporate jets. I went to court and agreed to pay them off monthly and have been doing that, but now I just want to stop them from getting another dime from anyone until they return the money- that in my opinion, they've ripped off.

Update:

Whoa - sorry I didn't fully explain... I used their credit cards on good faith that I would be paying a fair interest rate. Both companies, at around the same time arbitrarily raised my interest rate from 9% to 29%. Yes I tried calling them and asking why, and the only thing I got from them was that "there is nothing we can do about it". Late charges added up - you know where I'm going. I've never been someone to not pay a debt. In fact, I'm still paying instead of declaring bankruptcy. It just gets me angry to see how little they care about ordinary people.

Citigroup/Chase did not ruin your credit you did that all on your own. You ran up bills and didn't pay them that is how your credit got ruined.

If you refuse to pay after going to court you will be found in contempt of court and could find yourself sitting in jail.

I don't like them using taxpayer money for bonuses and I don't believe they should be allowed to do that.

The corporate jet was ordered about 4 years ago and they have made several payments on that jet before they got the bail out. They must now accept delivery or they will have a problem with one of their creditors.

you entered into a contract to use their credit in order to make purchases that you otherwise wouldn't have made. You didn't pay them according to the terms of your agreement or else your credit would not be ruined and you wouldn't have had to go to court. Just because you don't like how your creditor uses money that he has borrowed or been given does not preclude you from paying your debt.

The Judge might feel in agreement with you but would still have to follow the law, that wouldn't fly as a way to dodge a debt. I hope you had the good sense to cut all your credit cards up.

They have safeguards to protect themselves -- you'll just ruin your credit score. Besides, those "GREEDY corporate pigs" enabled you to buy whatever it is you HAD TO BUY at that moment...so why not just give them their money back? Seems reasonable.

Start a boycott if you want to hit them hard...you have the power to campaign...use youtube, facebook, myspace -- I bet some of the media outlets would jump on board if you got some traction.

ROTFLOL, use that argument and see how far that gets you. You bash the credit card company for greed, but I don't see you taking any blame yourself, afterall you did use those credit cards.

    --------------------------------

Had you read the terms and conditions of your credit card you would have seen a clause that allows them to jack up your rates. Also, if you miss even a single payment they can jack up your rates, also if you miss just a single payment to another bill they can jack up your rates. Sorry, but I feel very little sympathy for you.

You signed a contract with them so you could buy things that you didn't have the cash to pay for.

Pay in cash and you won't have these problems anymore.

They forced you to run up debts on your cards, is that your position?

    "Denial is a wonderful tool."

Good luck. Once you've charged, you've taken THEIR money; you are repaying that.

You'd have no chance. and be spending money you don't have to do it.
