I would definately give it to the animal shelter. They need all the help they can get.

Special Kitty is about the worst food you can buy for your cats! It contains no meat and no quality ingredients. Cheap foods are cheap for a reason - they have cheap ingredients. It's the same concept as with food for people - store brand hot dogs are cheaper than good cuts of chicken or beef. But which is better for you? Your cats need a diet high in meat (real meat, not meat by-products) and low in grain, and free of corn. The cheapest - yet still healthy - food that you are going to find for them would be at the pet store. Petsmart's Authority brand is a very budget priced food, as is Max Cat. The cost a bit more that what you'll find at the grocery store, but are of significantly higher quality. You aren't saving money if you buy those really cheap foods as they will cost you down the road - in bills at the vet. You can't scrimp on good nutrition! Besides, your cats will eat less of a better quality food than a cheap one, as they don't need as much to satisfy their body's need for protein. I know times are tough and we all don't have infinite money to spend on cat food, but do look at the two budget brands I've mentioned here - they are about the lowest priced ones you're going to get with any quality at all to the ingredients.

I'm sure the squirrels would love it, but you could also mix the cat food into a brand your cats do like and use it that way. I do that with hairball formula for my cats. Also, the previous post that mentions donating it to a shelter or rescue group is a great suggestion!

Why not the local animal shelter....I wouldn't give it to the squirrels because they will just keep coming back. And then you'll have a big problem on your hands. I say the shelter.

YOUR wild squirrels? Are they actually yours? Because if they're not you shouldn't feed them anyway, some animals can become too dependant on being provided with food that they actually forget how to hunt for it on their own. So please be careful.
I wouldn't know if it would kill them, but to be safe, just don't let it near them.

"killing them dead?" -how else can you kill them without them being dead (that made me smile XD)
But no, don't feed wild squirrels, because they will become dependent on you and stop hunting, or will develop a taste for cat food and come onto your house and scare your cats.
