Is there somthing mentally wrong with my cat?
Ok, so my cat is about 9 months old. and he is seriously... CRAZY. He will run around the house, chasing NOTHING. He nips at us whenever we try to pet him, and he.... seriously bounces off the walls. However, every once in a while, he will become Dr. Jekyl, a nice, sweet cat that will come sleep on my lap; but for most of the time he is Mr. Hyde.... very destructive. He is absolutly spastic, and we thought it was just a phase that all kittens went through... but he is getting older, and its NOT getting any better. I have also noticed that when he is crazy his pupils are REALLY big, and when he is calm they are normal. Could there be somthing wrong with my cat?
My boyfriend adopted my Cat's brother, and that cat is NORMAL... hes cuddly sweet... and doesn't try to attack me.
what is wrong with my cat? is there any hope he will grow out of it?
We actually had my cat fixed a couple months ago... I think it made him crazier....

your cat is not a cat yet, he is still a kitten at 9 months. He doesn''t sound all that different than mine. I sometimes wonder what has gotten into him and why he is racing around like a nut case, then he will stop, bite one of the other cats and then settle down next to me purring away like crazy and go to sleep. He will sleep for an hour and then it starts again. I do notice that it is beginning to slow down a bit, he is a month older than your cat. He went through changes when we had him fixed. He also had a serious disease when we got him and was dying, so after surgery he seems to be making up for lost time.
I've had cats all my life, some have been crazy like this, usually the males. The females seem to be more sedate. This is the first male I've had in awhile. My cats are all purebred, but I really don't think that makes a difference, except in one of my cats that was definetly inbred and is a runt. She had me worried, she walks backwards and in circles and quacks like a duck and is now 6 years old and hasn''t grown out of any of these traits, and I paid a lot for her, but she gets along with the other two, so they think she''s a cat, so what do I care.
All cats are different, that's what makes them so much more fun then dogs, you never know what they are going to do.
Give the cat some time to grow up and I'm sure things will be fine. Maybe he needs a playmate, you may have one of those cats that hates to be an only cat.

Sounds like my cat in heat, but no, I don't think there's anything wrong with your kitty, he's just being a cat. Some are more spastic than others. I've had one that slept in the branches of our Christmas tree... Cats just have their own personalities, and it sounds like yours has A LOT of personality. Though I think someone else said fleas, and that's quite possible. Try calming him down when he's being spastic and tilt his neck back. If so, you'll see a ton of fleas crawling around there. Also, all cats get thinner pupils when they're hyper. He sounds cute to watch.

All cats act that way. They will just suddenly run around crazy like and there eyes will be big like you say and then later just be laying there relaxing. That's what I love about cats they are so funny. One time my cat ran and jumped through the blinds it was so funny because they are horizontal blinds and he just dove right through them.
Also your cat is 9 months old that's still a kitten really. Once they are 2 years old they calm down some but they will still run around like that but not quite as often.
I wanted to add that my cat did not calm down after being neutered either. He got calmer once he got to be about 2 years old. So there is still hope for you. Then my other cat who is 10 now when she got to be 5 years old she really got mellow and started sleeping most of the day. If they are wild as kittens they do mellow out more the older they get.

It can be down to breed. Different breeds of cats have different temperaments. It can also be due to personality.
I don't think its a mental disorder and the pupils are normal. Its like how our pupils change in light and dark and also by our emotions and reactions. It seems pretty normal to me. My cats do that when they are bored or need exercice. Try playing with the cat by getting them to chase a ribbon or something and it should tire them out after a while and he might calm down.

lol!! my cat was the same way. so like, is your cat fixed?? if not then they say that some times your cat will slow down after they are fixed. but thats not always the case. he could just be really hyper. some cats are like that. nothing wrong with your cat at all. and just keep in mind that he is still a baby with tons of energy.

Something as simple as fleas can cause cats to do this. We had three kittens, mom was half crazy, the babies grew up like here, we wanted to keep them all. It didnt seem like the few occassional fleas we saw were too much. When they were of age, I went and got perscription flea drops, and all 4 cats turned into the most wonderful cats ever. It was the few fleas just driving them crazy.

He's a kitten.
This is what kittens do.
What did you expect?
A playful cat will chase ANYTHING when it's bored.
Bugs, shadows, it's tail, and dust.
Even things that it THINKS are there.
He lays on your lap because he DOES love you, but he just likes to play.
Get some toys and play with your cat.

Firstly: Is he neutered?
Secondly: A LOT of cats act like that. I have one cat who won't stop crawling all over me, and one who acts like a schizoid! He chases random nothingness and won't let us pet him.. A few minutes later he'll give me "the look" that means "Okay, you can come pet me and play too now."
It's a normal behavior, and cats generally do get calmer as they get older... But yeah... It takes time.
Oh, and mine are 11 months.

Your are just parinoid , because a normal cat have to sleep 18 hours , it not be strange that your cat sleep so much.
