Has anyone else had problems with their in-laws giving their children hideous clothing?
My husband's parents (and sometimes grandparents) give our children (their grandchildren/great-grandchildren) the most HIDEOUS outfits sometimes. We're talking lumberjack plaid pants, and bright red picnic-table-pattern sweaters with bunny ears for a 3 year old boy, and a hot pink leopard print hat and jumper with a matching undershirt with a hot pink leopard print butterfly for a 3 month old girl. Sometimes... the clothes are nice. But sometimes, they are horrible. And they never give receipts! So I can't return the clothing for something more suitable - I feel like they are wasting their money, but I don't want to hurt their feelings.
Any suggestions? :o)

Honestly, don't tell them. They may say to you they want you to tell them if their presents suck(people do that to me) but when you do, they're crushed. (Even though if someone told me that, I wouldn't really care, but judging on how they don't give receipts, they might.) Just donate the absolutely hideous ones to a Charity. And keep the not hideous, but pretty ugly ones in case you need extra clothes or they're going to get messy doing something.

In todays day and age, I would suggest that they purchase a gift card for the children instead of clothing that they possibly don't need. Tell them you would be happy to take a picture of the children in what ever it is you purchase with their gift card. This way you can get what the children need and the grandparents don't have to do so much running around.Just an idea!

Try the same situation back at them. Give them something they wouldn't want and see what they would do. If they would tell you, or throw it out. Your kids could wear the outfits only when they go to there grandparents. Other then that they can wear anything else.

Just accept whatever they give. After all it is the thought that counts. However, you can drop a hint or two in the most courteous manner you can ever come up with. Anyway your children will soon be able to express their own opinions and you can leave it to them to do the job.

Ask for the receipt or ask where it was purchased, a lot of times you can exchange without the receipt. Good luck!

Yes, donate to Goodwill or a thrift shop.
Never dress the kids in the outfits.
Eventually they will figure it out.
