Do you have a favorite, and notable, performance from a Horror movie?

Happy Tuesday!

Usually when I hear people talking about a Horror movie they just saw they talk about the more visual or technical aspects of it, like the special effects, gore or some of the "thrills" thrown in there. But, at least to me, you really don't hear much about an actor or their performance in the film. I guess that may be typical for a genre that has had many films that centered around a man in a white mask that groans as they walk slowly towards their next victim, but I'm sure there has to be more to it than that.

Can you think of any Horror film, past or present, where an actor's performance caught your attention and was maybe worthy of some praise?

Thanks!

Update:

veeringright - no, it's not my name but it is a nickname I occasionally go by. Someone just the other day told me that Sookie is a character in True Blood, which I had never heard of...LOL.

Update 2:

Good Morning, MachPen!!! :D

Excellent call there...you've got to be impressed with an actor that small, dealing with that kind of material!

Update 3:

Happy Tuesday, Darth!

Update 4:

veeringright - thanks for the recommendation! :)

Update 5:

Afternoon, Silver!

Update 6:

Morning, PJ! 28 Days Later has been on my list...right next to The Vanishing, I guess. :)

Update 7:

Happy Tuesday, migh!

Update 8:

You're right, PJ! It's time to stop slacking and just watch these flicks.

But I'm scared! :O

    Good Morning, Sookie!

My favorite is Cillian Murphy in 28 Days Later.

    Others....

Nathan Fillion in Slither- This is a comedy horror, and Fillion added the comedy element, but it was still great

Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween- I might be biased here since Halloween is one of my favorites

Peter Mullen in Session 9- more of a psychological thriller, but I'm listing it anyways!

    ----

Wolfie- I just watched Dog Soldiers the other night for the umpteenth time. Love that movie!

    -----

Sausages! haha. Do you cringe like I do when the dog decides to get himself a treat?

    -----

Sookie- Is that your list of things to watch? Get going, girl! :)

Is your name actually sookie or is that from the show true blood or the book series??? That is cool:]

My favorite performance would have to be when hannibal lecter is talking to clarice starling about the screaming of the lambs, it is such a powerful scene and you can feel the chemistry between jodie foster and anthony hopkins. It is just amazing, such great actors and they were the only ones able to pull that off flawlessly.

EDIT: lol:D Wow, that is really awesome though, very cool nickname. True blood is a great vampire series of books, you should give them a read if you are into that sort of thing. And the tv show is awesome as well.

    Good afternoon, Sookie :)

Sean Pertwee in "Dog Soldiers" is the first to come to mind.

    "The Company of Wolves"

Sarah Paterson in the lead role of "Rosaleen". It was her debut film, and she was only 12, yet seemed 16+.

Micha Bergese, also in his first film. He wasn't an actor, but a dancer, and they cast him because they wanted someone who could move in a certain way.

    PJ :

    It's a modern classic!

Sean Pertwee was wonderful in it, especially when talking about "sausages"! And who knew the real reason superglue was invented...

I also loved Liam Cunningham, but we didn't get to see him enough :(

    Trivia moment :

Though all born in different years, most of my favourite actors were born within about a week of each other {and I was born on June 7th} :~

    June 2nd : Liam Cunningham

    June 4th : Sean Pertwee

June 6th : Jason Isaacs, and Danny Webb

    June 9th : David Troughton

    June 10th : Ben Daniels

Several of these guys have worked together in various things, so wonder what it was like if they were filming around those days...?!

Linda Blair. She was a young teenager in a controversial role, so controversial they had to remove some of the original scenes in the movie including "the Cross" scene. Imagine Dakota Fanning or Emma Roberts doing a movie like that now.....

Edward Woodward in The Wicker Man.

    Tippi Hedren in The Birds.

  • Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrence in the Shinning

Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector in Silence of the lambs

And whom ever played the clown, Pennywise in It.

Robert Mitchum's performance in Cape Fear.

    Béla Lugosi's performance as Dracula.
