Does anybody know if Petsmart buys or accepts donated fish?
I know the best bet is a local fish store but will Petsmart accept fish as a donation or possibly even buy them back. I have grown baby fish that I am looking to reduce the amount of fish in the tank.

I'm sorry, but Petsmart is not allowed to accept fish. I have heard that Petco will accept unwanted fish.
You could try a local pet shop, but don't expect to be paid for the fish. The pet shop would be doing you a favor by taking them.
~Amanderr~ You think Petsmart is cruel? I have worked for Petsmart for nearly two years; do you think I would stay if those sites told the truth? Read this- http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

I work at Petsmart, and I know as a fact that we aren't supposed to. SOMETIMES you'll be able to find an employee there who would take them for their own tank (like myself). We have had some people simply dump the fish on us. In fact, just last week, we got 5 sickly cichlids in a 5 gallon bucket outside of Petsmart's doors. This is not the best idea though because the baby fish will be put in a quarantine tank that usually has sick fish, or even fish that will eat the grown baby fish.

I wouldn't do that even if I could. In my Petsmarts they do not take good care of their fish and I often see diseased fish up for sale. I would post an ad on Craigslist and make sure you give the fish away to someone who can take good care of them.

I'm not sure but I'm guessing they don't, I would ask someone that works there. I am almost sure petco does as long as the fish isn't diseased.
EDIT: OK I was just reading on one of my receips from petco and it says "We will gladly accept any pet that you have had for any length of time as long as it isn't sock, it is part or our Think Adoption First Program". That wasn't exactly what it said but it is close enough!!

Call around for local mom and pop stores. Examples: here we have dotty's and somethin's fishy. They sometimes buy them if they're the right size. Usually they are. Good Luck!

No, they won't take them. They have contracts with suppliers and that includes not buying from you.
Craiglist, the give away lists or such, or some LFS are pretty much your options. Unless they are unusual, then something like aquabid.

Nope, they will not do so.
They're not allowed to do so, technically.
