What Bible version do you use and why?

I mostly use the KJV, because it is the version I am most accustomed to. I also sometimes use the English Standard Version because it is often clearer to those who are not used to the Elizabethan English of the King James.

For serious study, I use an electronic King James with Strong's numbers, so I have the original Greek and Hebrew words available with just a mouse click. I also have a 1611 KJV with Apocrypha, as well as a Douay-Rheims, an NKJV, an NIV, a Young's Literal Translation and a 1588 Bishop's Bible. Oh, and I think I have John Darby's translation on my laptop.

I use several English translations. The ones I most prefer are the English Stand Version, the New American Standard Bible, and the Holman Christian Standard Bible. I also use on a regular basis the New International Version, the New Living Translation, the King James Version, the New King James Version and the Amplified. Occasionally I will use versions such as the Message, the New Century Version or the Contemporary English Version. All of these Bibles say the same thing, just in slightly different ways so I use them all to gain a deeper meaning of what the original text was speaking about in the native language.

I will quote a woman who attended the church I was forced to attend as a kid, "If the King James Version of the Bible was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me". She was also the one that told me that if I ever took one drink, I would burn in hell. I could never find that one in any version of the Bible.

King James Version which is the most reliable translation.

I do have a 1611 KJV as well which is interesting to read. For Bible studies I use PowerBible with the interlinear text in order to see the original Greek & Hebrew as well as the English words.

I'm no Christian, but I use the King James Version. The New World Translation is over-simplified and changes the meaning of several lines in there.

I used the NIV but refference the KJV to keep the nutters happy.

I am also an Atheist. The NIV is easier to understand and has been largely stripped of the KJV misinterpretations, like Unicorns.

answer: the JPS translation of the Tanakh. When studying the Christian bible I go with the Harper's Study bible. I also have the KJV, the NKJV, the Catholic Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Koran, the Satanic Bible and others and have read them.

I like the New Century Version. I'm a teen, and it puts it in words that I can relate to. Check it out.

I use the KJV. Why? That's the version the most rabid zealots insist on, and I have to beat them on their own playing field.
