Why does my 13 month old wake up at night with trapped wind?

He wakes up almost every night crying and tensing his stomach. Rubbing his back and stomach soothes him but doesn't usually get rid of the wind.

He has a meal about 5pm, warm full fat milk before bed at 7pm and will usually wake between 1am - 4am,

Can we give him something before bed to reduce the night time wind?

    Hi,

My son had the same problem. Get some infacol from your chemist or supermarket. It's orange flavoured and you just drop a bit into their mouth and it helps bring up the wind, give it to him before his bottle and after if necessary.

This product saved many a painful tummy for my wee man!

    Good luck!

p.s sorry had to add this after reading someones comment - don't listen about lactose intolerance, you would probably have discovered it before now with the formula milk - some people just like to scare monger. My 2 nieces have it and it was obvious from they were tiny babies. trust me it's not a milk intolerance it's just trapped wind.

By "wind" I assume you mean gas (farts). As you indicated, he drinks full fat milk before bed and then wakes up later with "wind" that hurts his belly. If could be that he is Lactose Intolerant. You might want to check with a doctor. In fact to test it yourself, try to cut out all dairy products for a few days and see if he still wakes up gassy, if he doesn't after you have elimnated the dairy products, that should confirm that he is intolerant to dairy.

I know this because I am Lactose Intolerant and dealed with the same sort of pain my entire life and I just now as an adult was diagnosed. So your best bet is to take him to his doctor to test whether or not he is intolerant or if it something else.

    Good Luck!

  • Do you have a wind catcher above his bed?

it may also be gas, try pushing his legs up or give him some gas drops
