First wedding and I want it to be special....?

So my fiance' and I have ten months to plan our wedding and I have no idea where to even begin. This is my first time planning a wedding and I have no one to help me and I don't have money to hire a wedding planner. I'd be really thankful if someone could please help me. I have no idea what to do.

First thing you should do is subscribe to a wedding magazine. Brides & Modern Bride gave me SO many good ideas every time I got one in the mail. Definitely worth the $25 for a 1-year subscription.

But the first thing you want to do when planning a wedding is to book the location for your ceremony & reception. Venues book well in advance so the sooner you can find a place and get it booked for your day, then you can build everything around it. The venue normally sets the tone for the "type" of wedding you have. Once you have a place booked the next thing you need to do is find a dress. To have a dress ordered normally takes anywhere from 3-6 months depending on the designer so the sooner you find something the better. Enlist the help of any friends or family you might have to help with all the small details because it can get overwhelming.

Planning my wedding was kind of a nightmare. I had family drama in the midst of stressing out over everything that had to get done. But in the end everything came together and it was the most amazing day of my life. Try and focus on the positive and I'm sure yours will be wonderful too. Congrats & good luck!

Don't stress out. Make a list of everything you want to accomplish for the wedding. The each week for the next month focus on getting a few of those things done. Here is a great guide to help you out.

As you have ten months rather than twelve, you'll of course have to alter it a bit.

When I first started planning my wedding, I found this great site. There is every category of wedding info you could need, from picking your colors, to cheap do-it-yourself centerpieces and everything in between. Plus you can go into any category and ask questions about that subject and get great answers from other people and the sites professionals.

I know it seems overwhelming, but I have had one year to plan a wedding for 400 people, and although at first I thought it couldn't be done, everything is finally coming together. One thing that really helps is choosing supportive bridesmaids and enlisting your family(moms, aunts, grandmas)to help.

Good Luck! If you have questions about anything particular, make sure you ask us.

Also: Be aware that if you join sites like "The Knot", they will email you a billion advertisements a day.

You're planning to get married again to other people in the future? Most people are on their first (and hopefully only) wedding when they get married so your wording is a bit odd there.

Pick whatever elements you want that are personal to you. Sit down with your fiance and make 3 lists. First list is your must-haves. Second list is things that are nice to have but you can do without if you have to. The last is things that are not important to you that you don't want to include. Go from there while staying within your budget.

The ladies on the local boards at http://talk.theknot.com/ are helpful with finding good vendors in your area. The folks at http://www.etiquettehell.com/smf are also helpful.

Also, don't be afraid to ask anything you want to know here since that is what the section is for.

I'm in the same mess. My saviour has been Fortune Wedding Favors. The picture cookies are awesome. They're fairly cheap, (the fortune cookies are .99 cents. My friend got those for her wedding) and they were so easy to get/pick/order. They last for 6 months, so now that's out of my hair.

    Hi and congratulations!

Most brides like to go to www.theknot.com

On that site there is EVERYTHING you can imagine. There are checklists of what needs to be done when, etc.

But, don't hesitate to ask questions on this forum. That is what all of us are here for! We love to help!

The first and most important thing (in my opinion) is for you and your fiance to set a budget. Everything "wedding" will revolve around your budget and what you can spend. Once you know your budget, then make out a spreadsheet and list all the things you need....such as, dress, tux, rings, invitations, caterer, music, cake, etc. etc. and write things down as you go.

But, again, don't hesitate to ask on this forum. No question is dumb or stupid.

i think you should first imagine your dream wedding write down all you want in it and then go to a wedding planing site so you can check all you're missing

and i'm guessing you've never planned a wedding for a friend or family member and that's what you mean by first wedding right?

get a venue and book it once you se a wedding date....

get your dress, then get your bridesmaids dresses and decide on what you want your colors to be. once you get your colors picked it should be pretty easy to decide on flowers, cake , decorations, and everything else. good luck.
