Do you think that many Feminists distort family violence statistics for political purposes?

Do you really think that men are inherently violent brutes, while most women are helpless, innocent victims?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

...The family violence issue has been distorted and politicized by the

gender wars. Believing what gender activists say about family violence

is like believing what the tobacco companies say about cancer.

Unfortunately, almost all information available to the public comes in

the form of political propaganda from "Men's Rights" groups or

"Women's Rights" groups.

This misunderstanding of the family violence issue is so pervasive

that city and county governments, the courts, law enforcement,

prosecutorÌs offices, mental health clinics, and other tax supported

agencies are now funding programs based on gender politics rather than responsible scientific studies....

...Violence against children by women is another issue where the public attitude is very different than the facts revealed by formal studies.

* Women commit most child abuse in intact biological families. When

the man is removed from the family the children are at greater

risk.

* Mother-only households are more dangerous to children than father-

only households.

* Children are 3 times more likely to be fatally abused in Mother-only

Households than in Father-only Households, and many times more

likely in households where the mother cohabits with a man other

than the biological father.

* Children raised in Single-mother Households are 8 times more likely

to become killers than children raised with their biological

father.

Other studies reveal more about female violence against children:

* Women hit their male children more frequently and more severely than they hit their female children.

* Women commit 55% of child murders and 64% of their victims are male children.

* Eighty two percent of the general population had their first experience of violence at the hands of women, usually their mother.

Our culture learns to be violent from our mothers, not our fathers.

Yet, 3.1 million reports of child abuse are filed against men each

year, most of which are false accusations used as leverage in a

divorce or custody case....

...Men and children may not report when they are injured by a woman,

however, the dead bodies of the men and children who are the victims

of violent women are usually reported. Murder statistics are far more

reliable than reported abuse statistics. The Bureau of Justice

Statistics released a report of family homicides in 33 urban counties.

Some gender activists claim that violent women are acting in self-

defense. These quoted statistics represent convictions for murder.

1. "In spouse murders, women represented 41 percent of killers."

2. "In murders of their offspring, women predominated, accounting for

55 percent of killers."

3. "Among black marital partners, wives were just about as likely to

murder their husbands as husbands were to murder their wives: 47

percent of the victims of a spouse were husbands and 53 percent

were wives."

This is a long way from the claim that "men are responsible for 90% of

family violence". Those who quote law enforcement statistics to

support the "male villain-female victim" dogma are either misled or

deliberately attempting to mislead....

I don't know what to say other than I agree; your question has been well researched and ties in with my own - are these statistics based on the U.S.

I think some do. I also think some distort them in the opposite direction. There are people of every political persuasion who will distort the facts to bring people to their side.

However, feminism is not about saying that men are evil and women are victims. That's just silly and not true.

Yeah, some men abuse women. Some women abuse men. Some women and some men abuse children. Why focus on who does what more often? Shouldn't the goal be to eliminate all of these forms of abuse? Numbers don't mean much; any instance of abuse, no matter who is being abused and who is doing the abusing, is bad and deserving of our attention. Gosh.

*Edit* Well said Soldier4Christ. That's also true.

To keep my answer clear and clean cut - feminist organisations do indeed marginalize female abuse.

They are happy to note that a woman is likely to experience d/v some 30 times before reporting it or seeking help, but make no mention that men encountering violence have their own reasons for not being able to seek help.

Some examples being that when men call a help line for abused, they are redirected by sexists to the 'abusers help line' instead of 'victims help line'. The police have repeatedly demonstrated that they do NOT care about male victims of d/v.

Oh, and guess which political group most commonly 'educate' the police departments on talks about d/v? That's right - feminist groups.

Note also that d/v does NOT include violence against children - perhaps this is because women are the primary abusers of children, not men - though feminist groups suggest otherwise despite several decades of research reflecting the same & predictable outcome time after time; bio father is the safest person a child can be with and on the contrary, bio mother is the most likely abuser of a child.

With something as secretive and in many cases nicely-hidden as abuse, I have not any theory what style of individual could actual have faith in them. i'm no longer a stats fan in anyway, i do no longer locate them sturdy for something emotional or linked with relationships because of the fact those are own/inner maximum concerns and how will we placed this into valid numbers? is mindless to me. in spite of everything, people who're vulnerable to us BS arguments are not constantly feminists. Feminists have not cornered the marketplace on it, do no longer situation haha =o) there is in many cases issues tacked onto feminism that i'm all too swayed to have faith. That suggested, I admit to having no wisdom of what 'present day feminists' are doing, so this is achieveable the antis are real and this is all an excellent conspiracy to objective adult adult males and carry approximately women having supremacy. i actual doubt it nevertheless.

Male police officers are responsible for not treating the male victims of abuse fairly. Even if the guy is the one being abused he will always get treated like the aggressor once the police get to the scene. So the best bet would be to protest your local police department if you believe that they are too one sided on domestic issues.

I think your "statistics" are somewhat distorted. What's your intention nullifying the facts that MOST domestic violence perpetrators are the husbands by using that lame excuse "well, women do it, too..."

Adults hitting other adults is wrong, regardless of gender. So stop trying to make this into some kind of pissing contest.

Yeah I always go to Sam and Bunny's web site for accurate statistics. I also put my money in Bob's Bank since that seems like a credible financial institute.

You are pretty gullible if you accept a sketchy source like this to prove anything.

I don't think that the problem is so much with statistics being distorted as with the societal expectation of men to be the strong ones, to never outwardly express weakness for the sake of his family and his own pride. It is that very mentality that keeps so many men who are raped or physically abused from reporting it; they feel that because they are men it is their fault for alloing themselves to be raped or physically abused and they are so humiliated by the fact that they were weak enough to be overpowered and raped or physically abused that they don't dare report it for fear of what others may think. Unfortunately becasue of the same mentality people assume that because men who are raped or physically abused don't publicize the fact that they were raped that only women get raped or physically abused.

They sure do. They really want to be above men, just cause they were below men too long. But feminist, like blacks need to get over the past and understand that they are equal to everyone else.

Feminist are just bitter, with no husbands, or divorced, so they choose to whine about it, when that in fact does nothing

  • 1 decade ago

I totally agree. But then again feminists will lie about pretty much anything in order to further their agenda (rape, wages, history etc). Lying about women's violence against men is just another dirty lie as far as they are concerned.
