The most dangerous cause of pain in the calf is Deep Vein Thrombosis (which can kill you). So if in any doubt you should see your doctor.
However, from your description, it sounds like your pain is in your Achilles Tendon (below your calf muscle to insert into the back of your heel-bone); in which case the most likely cause is a strain of this tendon -- it is taking your whole weight of your body every time you walk or run, so it is slow to heal. Try stretching exercises for the tendon: keep your left foot flat on the floor, place your right foot in front of your left foot and lean forwards, keeping your left foot flat on the floor. This will probably hurt a bit -- don't overdo it -- better to do small doses frequently throughout the day. However, if it persists more than another month or two, see your doctor (or see him/her straight away if there's any doubt that the pain could be in the calf muscle itself).

Is there any type of bruising? It might be some kind of worm..maybe a ring worm. Or, maybe a fly laid eggs near that area. Yes, that is possible. When I was in Middle School I had pain on my shin area. There was no bruising or anything except for a small scab like area. I went to the doctor and he confirmed that it was an insect that laid it's larvae in my body. He sprayed some kind of medicine over my shin and out came the larvae.
