Republican Senators work for foreign auto companies to wipe out American car makers.?

Is this patriotic country first behavior?

WASHINGTON, Feb 5 (Reuters) - One proposal to help jump start U.S. auto sales was withdrawn late on Thursday and the fate of another was unclear, despite a vigorous endorsement from President Barack Obama, as Senate consideration of economic stimulus legislation accelerated.

Sen. Thomas Harkin, an Iowa Democrat, pulled an amendment that would have provided $16 billion in rebates to buyers of new fuel efficient vehicles who traded in their old, poor performing models.

Harkin said he would defer the so-called "cash for clunkers" proposal, which had strong support from U.S. automakers.

Lobbyists for those companies this week called it a genuine stimulus for a depressed market. U.S. auto sales plunged to a 27-year low in January.

There was no backing, however, for the plan from foreign manufacturers whose operations are clustered in states represented by conservative Republicans.

Funny how Republican resistance to US Automaker bailout goes back to having 'Foreign' automakers plants in their States. Here is an interesting fact...If it is these "High Cost" union jobs that hurt US automakers, how do the republicans explain nummi. Same union workers at the same plant make GM and Toyota cars. What is the difference...Maybe the Top management at the two companies!!!

the respond is easy! the motor vehicle marketplace has been stricken by exertions unions for some years. as quickly as I recommend plagued, I recommend the exertions unions in ordinary terms interest has been to maintain their skill, no longer interest of the staff. in the event that they actually cared concerning the staff, they does no longer have priced themselves out of opposition. once you have a guy or woman who has in ordinary terms a extreme college degree at maximum suitable, making $80k a three hundred and sixty 5 days to place rivet a into slot b, then retire at fifty 5 with an entire pension, it quite is a situation. additionally, American automobiles have been substandard to Honda, Toyota for years now. Why pay greater for a motor vehicle that may no longer going to final as long, be interior the restore save greater normally once you will detect a cheaper gas useful foreign places motor vehicle? With the motor vehicle marketplace going bankrupt, they are in a position to restructure their contracts with the crooks interior the unions, or greater suited yet, improve right into a non-union company and improve into aggressive returned contained available. My kin constantly offered Pontiacs. while i improve into waiting to purchase my first motor vehicle interior the mid 80s, it improve right into a VW, then I went with Honda and Nissan and have had super automobiles. If Obama keeps his grimy liberal mitts off of the motor vehicle marketplace they might have a huge gamble. yet while Pelosi and the the remainder of her cronies proceed to push him, SA la VIE!

Im a social liberal but to be honest, if the american car companies can't compete on the global market, they why should we prop them up to reward their inefficiency? Yes we can blame the unions and they play a huge part in this, but there are plenty of cars made in the US by non union workers. The are all foreign owned but the wages earned by the workers are right in here in US.

I think its time to clean house.

Again...how does encouraging more personal spending help the current economy? And do you not realize about 80% of those "replacement" cars would have been Toyotas and Hondas?

Finally, Tom Harkin is from Iowa.....hmmmmm....what do they grow in Iowa? Could it be CORN! The very same corn that the government is paying farmers to grow for ethanol production ... a government program that has been driving up food prices for months now?

Funny how the author failed to put as much emphasis on that as on the demographics of the "Republican" states...

So because the non union automakers here in the states that employ millions of Americans make more fuel efficient cars they should be punished.

Just another string of instances in which the Republican Party has failed the American people in any demographic one could image; with the exception of the wealthy and growing elitist. By the way; their children if ever; seldom fight on the front lines for our liberties.

Yep, Republicans are happy to spend billions of dollars subsidizing foreign owned companies in their states but won't even spring for a loan to American owned companies.
