I live in Texas and want to go on an elk hunt this year, New Mexico or Colorado. How do I find a guide?

This is for me and my buddy. What kind of tags do we need? How long should we plan for? How much should we expect to pay?

I would be very careful hiring a guide. Some do a great job. Some simply take your money. I would recommend using a consulting service. These hunts have been hand selected, and consistently get better reviews. I'm not saying there aren't better guides, but at least this way it's not a shot in the dark. The consultants can answer all of your questions much better than any of us here. Here are two I'd recommend.

NM nonresident license fees range between $337 antlerless to $772 for high demand bull hunts.

type in NMDGF and you will see the dates, costs, and a list of guides.

there are no over the counter permits issued , all being on a draw system

April 8th is the deadline to apply.

you do not need to hire a guide if you don't want to.
