If I plug my brother's iPod into my laptop will all of his songs get erased?
I don't own an iPod so I don't know how that works. But I have iTunes on my computer and I was going to put something on his iPod. Will plugging it into my laptop erase all of his stuff?

Yes, One iPod can sync with only one iTunes library, once you connect his iPod to your computer iTunes, it will erase all files on iPod. But you may try this ipod transfer, it's a nice iTunes alternative that can help you sync music and video to iPod, no need iTunes anymore, it will not delete your existing files on iPod

unless his ipod is synced with another computer, you won't have any problem with adding something on his ipod with your computer. it won't erase anything unless you sync it with your computer.
when an ipod is synced with a computer, it's basically connected with it and only adds music that's on that one computer.
hope that helps.
