Are politicians in DC really THAT stupid?

Are the economic problems that US is facing a bunch of unexpected accidental coincidences and bad decisions on their part? Is that really possible? Don't they have the best of the best? I doubt the nation's economic decisions are made on day to day basis. I plan my small business finances a year in advance. And always figured the gov, with all the experts, should be able to plan at least decades in advance which would include a correlation of countless variable events.

when nobody is accountable, this is what happens. the trash rises, the competence hides, everyone points fingers at everyone else, and nobody takes responsibility to fix it. what it also means is that our politicians are too self-focused and not enough focused on their constituency. there are plenty of capable brains who could plan out long term economic strategies. but nobody would dare in the current DC environment. they'd either be ignored, ripped apart, or shelved until further notice. we need new politicians, that is the best answer.

Not really they have undo influence form over 35,000 lobbyist who in turn gave them $4.2 billion last year employ their family and also help employ family members due to the fact that they have someone manage that money.

this deregulation has been going on for a while. This lobbyist stuff has gotten way out of hand, but again it has been going on for a while and monkey see, monkey do. When one of them did it the others can say, "Hey they did it and it's legal, so no moral problem". You might remember years ago they all got busted for writing bogus checks to the Cap post office. Well not all of them.

They didn't and don't have any control over what the financial groups do with the bailout money and they are trying t buy jets, go to vegas and stuff like that and yet no on has stepped up and made them.

Why you may ask? Well it's because they put together all the crooked deals and bad debt and they also have bver $70 trillion in secret debt and if anything really got down and dirty and put some in jail the whole thing will come apart.

So they are in uncharted water here and it is real serious and they are letting a free hand run it and hope it sails. If it sinks, it is not going to be pretty. I just wonder how this could happen. I expect it at the lower levels in the states but not here, but no over sight. Hope this makes sense. A small business is not a good model for the US economy. It isn't even a good model for running a bank anymore due to the way banking regulations have been curbed.

The government doesn't control the economy, except in a regulatory way. And quite a bit of that regulatory power was left undone through the political view that the market can regulate itself. Economic experts regularly disagree with each other.

So yes, bad decisions were made. Some "experts" made those bad decisions.

It's a global crisis, not just the U.S. An enormous economy is much more difficult to manage, especially if you want to look at you managing finances for a small business for a year and expecting them to do decades for a massive amount of things.

On top of all of that, we still don't know how to overcome this problem. Everyone has their own solution, but since we have never faced a problem like this before (since interest rates have failed to help), we are left to guess in the dark.

Even the best of the best don't know.

YES. Oh, and I didn't read anything else other than your top line.

I honestly didn't read it. Now I have. They had to pass TARP within 24 hours or we would all perish if I remember correctly. How did that go? They can't account for the money. Brilliant. Another ready, fire, aim strategy from our federal government. They aren't experts either. We have a community organizer for president, possibly a comedian from Minnesota for senator, tax cheats in cabinet level positions, a plagiarizing vice president, a speaker of the house that wants to help the economy with 200 million dollars worth of condoms and scare people into believing that 500 million Americans will lose their jobs every month if the stimulus bill doesn't pass. They've known for decades that social security was in trouble, it's still in trouble. They've known for decades Medicare is in trouble, it's still in trouble. They knew the community reinvestment act was a big turd and could (and did) cause huge problems in the housing industry, and did nothing until it was too late. See TARP above. Sorry if I have little faith in anything they do.

No, they're too busy making "waitress sandwiches" to snicker at how stupid individuals are. They understand all they might desire to do, is scouse borrow funds from their political enemies, and supply it to their political acquaintances and that they are certain useful jobs for existence. No.

    Don't think so.

    Look in the real world.

Just at loss and blurred on what went wrong out there in time.

Like you and me too taking for granted that they know about it.

Without being they too were all at loss and blurred like us in time.

When we all was mass produced and rolled off from the same production lines too without being aware of it being expose in time.

Now we are all back in square one in time.

The misery was expose by the mystery of us-911 in shaking and waking us up in time.

then you must be really stupid because the politians in DC know a hell of a lot more than the civilians who live here in America. We aren't just throwing money away, if you pay attention then you will see that they actually know what they are talking about.

Apparently so...I am just as stunned as you are.

We are good at our jobs, we need our jobs...so what do they do? Outsource them.

They suck at their jobs, so what do they do? Give themselves raises, use Government money to smear candidates who run against them, and take money from lobbyists and union bosses to protect special interests.

Let's outsource Congress...they suck and they cost too much.

Watch Sicko or Fahreinheit 911...Remember the Illinois Gov. They kicked him out for saying he wanted to get rich in Washington with Obama Senate Seat! Politicians especially senators get very rich doing the voting for corporations rather than for the people they were supposed to represent!

The quickest way to get rich nowadays is to win a senate seat in Washington!
