Intolerance of the intolerant: Hypocrisy or not?

People who believe we should accept cultural diversity (race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.) and not discriminate are often accused of hypocrisy by those who feel that certain groups are immoral or inferior: The accusers complain that they themselves are victims of intolerance, as in "How come you don't accept *our* cultural identity? You're all a bunch of hypocrites!"

Are the cultural-diversity supporters hypocrites? Are their opponents hypocrites? Both? Neither? I'll choose the best answer in a couple of days.

Update:

Good answers all around. Thanks!

I think the answer differs greatly depending on the context. Is it hypocritical or intolerant in and of itself, to oppose a hateful group? No, absolutely not. It would be hypocritical though, in a way, to try and suppress their legal rights, like restricting said group's right assemble peacefully.

Everyone is a hypocrite. We can try to be completely intolerant but it is impossible.

I'm white and there is no why that I would every walk down a street that would be considered the "Hood". It's not that I would like to help in those areas but there is no way that I want to get hurt, raped, or other wise abused. Which is the same reason that those who make something of themselves, don't buy a house in the area that they grow up in. They don't want their children to have the same issues that they grow up with.

It makes me a hypocrite because I don't think that I am racist. I still don't think that I am racist just because I don't want to go into those areas. I also would not go into a bar that I know bikers, i.e. those that are part of the 1% club that are into illegal activities, were at.

But this makes me a hypocrite because I pride myself in being able to get alone with anyone and everyone. But I will not put myself in a dangers situations either.

NO. that's just a mind game that racists and white supremacists use to justify their extreme hatred. I do not tolerate people that only desire to destroy me and dehumanize me just because i am black. I do not tolerate people that wish me harm and try to make my life miserable or harder just because i am black. And that is called self-respect, i am smart enough to defend myself and never allow people to put me down. That is not hypocrisy, because i want peace and equality, and the only thing white supremacists want is to have me and all blacks dead, there is a BIG difference.

Actually, it is not. It is okay to be mad at the right things. If you aren't angered by the things that are unethical, you're insensitive.
