How about Gilbert............?
We need a baby boy name that starts with G... We're thinking about Gilbert-- public opinion?
Probably would go by Gil most of the time, not Bert. :)
Explanation for the G...
We want to name the baby after my husband's father (who is deceased) but unfortunately we already have a Gregory on my side of the family (bad luck to name after a living relative). The next option is to go with a name that starts with a G.

There isn,t anything wrong with Gilbert, I like it. My Great Granfathers name is Gilbert along with my dad and brother. They call my dad Gibby, and my brother Gil. My brother is also nicknamed Buddy. He's your son and if you like the name use it. Don't let anybody tell you different.

I know someone named Gilbert... Biggest ****** to ever walk the face of the earth. But on a more serious note. ******'s aside, I don't think it would be a good name these days. I'd name a kid Gustav before Gilbert. How about George or Garry?

i'm sorry but Gilbert is a really ugly name. I would feel so bad for the kid if u named him that! Here are some cute names that start with a G:
Garret
Gabriel
Gavin
Grant
Griffin
Gregory
Gordon
Geoff
hope this helps!

I have read the responses above and there are some pretty good answers. I agree that Gilbert is old-fashioned and too reminiscent of the Grape.
I don't like copping out, but I thing googling for boy's names is the best source of your "G" names.
I wish you success with naming and with your baby boy!!

I loved Anne Of Green Gables and Gilbert Blithe was my favorite character!! So personally I'm all for it. I think it is cute and sometimes it is nice to bring back an old fashion name. You could also give him a more modern middle name and then he can choose what he wants to be called in school to avoid being made fun of.

I wouldn't name my son Gilbert the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says Gilbert is Revenge of the Nerds.
Source(s): When I think about it there really isn't any cool names with the letter G that I can think of. - 1 decade ago
I'm a sucker for that name =)
I blame reading the Anne of green gables books [and watching the films] when I was a child [and now adult]
It's your baby. Regardless, children will get teased. I was teased as a kid about my name [Elizabeth <.<] don't know quite why... But kids make up anything to bother each other =)
I think it's an old fashioned strong name for a boy.
