Why are the republican politicians all the sudden worried about the deficit?

During the GW days government was radically expanded and deficits were not only the norm but we were told they were a good thing...now all of a sudden with a democratic president we are told that republicans are looking out for us and trying to curb the deficits...is this a bit like pot calling the kettle black? Now I am an independent with conservative leanings but just do not see how I can trust either party...starting to look like business as usual in Washington...Isn't it time for the people to take the reigns and force politicians to do our bidding?

When GWB was prez, the Republicans backed their man in the White House, and they since GWB was advised by a consortium of Neo-cons and he himself adhered to many a liberal ideal, American Republican political policy took a step or two or ten to the left.

The reaction of the Republican Party to the election of Barack Obama is that of returning to its Conservative roots. I am not very trustworthy of the either party either but hopefully a Conservative resurgence is in effect. People need to start letting their politicians know how mad they are, and OFTEN.

Look forward to politicians like Mitt Romney, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, and conservative writers, thinkers, and philosophers leading a more fiscally responsible movement.

The election of Barack Obama might just be the kick in the *** the Republican Party has needed since the election of Bush Sr.

Why is the left really quiet about the Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan drones, Patriot Act, and Gitmo now that Obama is in office? Is it possible that they just really hate President Bush? By the way, when Bush went out of office his approval rating was at about 22%. Showing that the majority of Republicans were not happy about the deficits. There for you can keep your hate/race card that liberals love to use.

    1) as long as the ultra rich and US corporations benefit, deficits are good. Military spending on stuff like wars is good for corporations, and capital gains tax cuts mostly benefit those with huge $13,000,000.00+ stock market portfolios.

    2) When you switch the tax breaks away from the ultra-rich to the middle class, and God forbid, the working class: start spending on domestic programs that might benefit union labor then deficits become a bad thing.

    3) take back what? This is not a democracy. Read the constitution, this is a republic. They do the bidding of those that contribute most to their political campaigns.

and the money that was borrowed disappeared. The money we are borrowing now is to circulate in our own country. I can't answer why & they can't either but I think they are afraid of competing with democrats. I know I have neighbors who are republicans who compare their daughter to my son. So maybe that is how they grew up. The democrat neighbor was always better so now they are trying to ruin the country so they can get their revenge. The reason is something they aren't aware of it.

Something to %&$#* about, the whole it wasn't us it was them. Anything to shift the blame from those that aren't doing anything in Congress.

If the people take a little bit of time and start checking into what congress is and isn't voting on (best to check a few different sites to make sure the numbers are correct.) or killing in committees.

he plans to more than double it. This doesn't bother you? The next bank bailout is due next week....

google 'Iceland unrest' and see what has been happening to 'western world' countries that have overextended themselves.

However, I agree some in Congress seem a bit disingenuous.

Look into Ron Paul, though, he is consistent to the core.

You know that feeling you get about a millisecond before your car slams into a bridge abutment going 190 miles an hour?

THAT's the feeling they're getting (and you should be too).

because they are trying to get re-elected. they failed their party over the last 8 years and are now trying to actually BE conservatives and not just republican in name only.
