Who makes sears chainsaws ?
I have a chainsaw and I need to get a muffler for it. I can't find a model # which is needed in order to search sears parts. I was hoping to find who makes them and search that way.
I have had it ALL apart and the only number I found was on the fuel tank 530-23819 below that was M-545 6 . There was no number on the motor

Well, Model number would be the easiest way to tell, but in your case that won't help.
If your Craftsman chainsaw has the Sim-Pul starting technology, then it's manufactured by Husqvarna Outdoor Products ( Poulan, Poulan Pro) which would also give its model number a prefix of 358.
If your chainsaw has the Incredi-Pul starting technology, then it's manufactured by MTD (Troy-built, Bolens) which would give it's model number a prefix of 316. Two poplular models from each manufacturer are 316.35084 and 358.35088.
You can find product manuals for these chainsaws or any Sears chainsaw @ managemyhome.com. Which might be able to give you an idea of which chainsaw more closely resembles your own. Good Luck

Most of Sears chainsaws are now made by Poulan, but they did buy from others too.
One of the biggest problems with buying a store brand like Sears is the fact they're always shopping around for another supplier. Since they usually only make minor cosmetic from the name brand to the Sears one you should be able to look at the motor itself to figure out who made it.

Really hard to say-- because craftsman is just a brand name and they buy the product from various companies-Homelite- McCullough, Poulan, Stihl, Just depends on the model and year. Take your muffler off and take it to a small engine repair shop, they should be able to help. Good luck. I ran a Sears store and sold the chainsaws and have one- took me 3 stores to find a new chain, apparently mine was a Homelite. But any year they could use different companies which is why there are so dang many model numbers.

20 years ago it was Homelite (if spelled right) that made Sears chainsaws. Thats all I remember , had one. Good luck.

Find model number. Such as 123.456789, the first three numbers (123) will tell you the manufacturer if you go to the following website to find the mfg.
