Isn't it just too bad that Ronald Reagan?

Never got the Line Item veto bill passed. If he had, do you still think we would be stuck with as much pork barrel spending as we have seen over the last 20+ years, from both parties?

Update:

Too bad you are so mired in political animosity, Giterdone. I made no accusations toward either party, just asked a simple question about an important issue that happened to be surfaced by a Republican President. I would have thought the same thing, addressed by a Democrat to still be a good idea.

Update 2:

With the exception of a few nuts on the left and right fringes, I'm glad to see that we still remain, mostly, fair and balanced people when honest questions are answered honestly.

Thank you all.

Yes, I think a line item veto would be a good thing. It would make it so the congress and senate might just be a little more careful about what they put into an otherwise good bill, that usually makes it turn out bad.

I also think we need to be rid of the electoral college. With the speed of tabulating the populous vote these days why do we still need representatives to go to Washington to cast our votes for us?

gitrdone: Clinton also gutted our military to get that balanced budget. What a comfort that was when we were attacked, and had no way to defend ourselves.

You're dead-on! The ruling class has destroyed this country and the current economic stimulus package will be the final nail in our coffin. I'm about to contact my representatives and suggest we change the name of the US to France, Jr. At least there's some comfort in knowing President Reagan didn't live to see what's become of the country he loved. I just wish the Great Experiment didn't have to end in my lifetime.

  • Yes, it IS too bad.

Ol' Tommy R. is, once again, missing the point; he obviously has NO IDEA of how bills are constructed on Capitol Hill. It's sad really, the state of educational attainment of today's youth.

Back to the point, though: Congress will NEVER, EVER give any President the line item veto. Not even if Mr. Perfect himself told them that he needs it so that he can be the Most Perfect President Ever. They'd just laugh at him and the Dems would be the ones laughing loudest. The irony is just too rich! lol

Most of those leading our nation are corrupt. I don't think anything will improve our nation until we get all those scumbags out of office. That includes both Reps and Dems.

Edit...Gitrdone, please get the facts before typing false accusations. Here's the proof, can you supply any?

In 1999, Fannie Mae came under pressure from the Clinton administration to expand mortgage loans to low and moderate income borrowers. At the same time, institutions in the primary mortgage market pressed Fannie Mae to ease credit requirements on the mortgages it was willing to purchase, enabling them to make loans to subprime borrowers at interest rates higher than conventional loans. Shareholders also pressured Fannie Mae to maintain its record profits.

In 2003, the Bush administration recommended significant regulatory overhaul of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. However, the Democrats opposed that proposal, fearing that tighter regulation could sharply reduce financing for low-income housing, both low and high risk.

Gitrdone, may I also add that Clinton spent money designated for Social Security towards other areas? This "Social Security" money was money that Clinton did not technically have to spend. However, Dems like yourself seem to count it towards his surplus. In reality, his budgets were also deficits.

What screws everything up is the spending. Non of them can stop.

When you give tax cuts revenue to treasury goes up, but if the idiots keep spending it makes no difference.

People have the attention span of gnats. So what if Reagan had been able to stop Pork.

Republicans and Democrats both would have been right back at it 1 year later.
