car stopped moving forward?
My son was not far from home when his dodge Neon with front wheel drive just stopped moving forward. The engine runs fine and he has no forward gears or park; only reverse. There have not been any signs of leaks and he said the car ran fine until this suddenly happened. Is this a transmission problem perhaps or something else with the front wheel drive. Thanks
All of your answers were good, but I had it towed and it was the left front axle was broken. My son has some 'splainin' to do, but it was less than $250 to fix. I'm somewhat relieved.

Sounds like transmission. A friend of mine had a VW and it couldn't go in reverse. Something wrong with the transmission.

Transmission failure. Take the car (tow it) to the nearest transmission specialist garage for an evaluation.

you might try changing the fluid and filter but it sounds like the transmission is done for.

seems such as you transmission desires restore. there's no longer the rest interior the driveline that would desire to make your automobile behave like that. examine to grease point interior the transmission first, yet i think of the trans desires restore.
