What does it mean when a bird flutters against your window?
I have heard that spirits often embody birds. There are three times when a bird has come to my window and flapped it's wings against the windows. You should know that twice it was dark out and the only light in the room was from the tv. The third time was in the day, but i know the window wasn't being hit by any direct sunlight and wasn't very clean at the time. The birds never hit the windows, just perched by them and flapped their wings around. They are always finches. My mother had this happen to her after her friend and housekeeper died in my parent's house. The first time it happened to me was after my grandmother died. She was very fond of birds, yellow canaries in particular. The bird that came to my window was a goldfinch. The last two times i have seen a house finch outside my window and perched on the ledge looking in. Once right after my cat died and just tonight, almost a year after my cat was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma (cancer).
Does anyone have any more information on this subject? Or other similar stories?
the window did not have any reflection - it was dark out or the window was dirty.

Knowing me, I would try to catch him, if I though he weren't a wild bird. If he was a pet that got out, he could die (parrots can not live in the wild, if they were bred and raised in captivity as a pet.) I would try to catch him; leaving the window open. Maybe he wants in; who knows. I would get him and leave posters around. Maybe do some research on the computer and see if he is a domesticated breed that is not normal around your parts? This is just what I would do; I'm not a wild bird expert, just a long-time bird owner. Good luck; poor little guy!

Garden Birds are territorial. The bird cannot tell it's reflection from an intruding bird and is trying to scare it off.
You often see it with robins. Robins are extremely brave birds. When they follow you around in the garden, they are not being friendly, they are saying "got off my land!"
