Best silicone, etc,.. for around shower door.?

My father installed a cheap aluminum? sliding glass shower door system to an existing normal tub. It sits on top of the tub ledge and instead of using a shower curtain there is now 2 sliding glass doors. Unfortunately he is not the best handyman or craftsman and kinda just throws stuff up half a&^ed if you know what i mean. Now there is gunk growing around and under where the aluminum door frame meets the porcelain tub because he never sealed it. Im also not the greatest at this stuff but I admit it. I am going to take it apart and clean it again for him and need recommendations on a sealer. I have already tried a few caulks and 100% silicone and nothing seems to hold up. The water seems to wash away anything i try to seal it with. Any ideas?

Also while im asking, he also needs a seal/cover to hide the seam on the floor where the tile floor actually meets the porcelain tub. He tried some while plastic caulk strips and the glue is just falling off because of the moisture around the tub area. Know anything that would stick to porcelain?

GE makes a real good silicone. All silicone is a challenge to get a nice neat bead but it works great. Clean and dry and don t get it wet for at least 24 hrs. Polyseam seal is a good caulk but NOT for what your doing. It has latex in it and will deteriorate over time in a wet situation like you have. Now if your looking for a colored caulk to use at the base of your tub you can use a latexed based caulk there. You can get a nice looking caulk job there but it won t last as long as a silicone sealer. GL

if you can get any i would suggest two pieces of wood about 4cm thick either side this will save a lot of mess and if the walls are not parallel them the door frame will still be in shape then when the door is in place and fitted fill any remaining edges with silicon sealant this will also help to waterproof the edges stopping water going onto the floor hope this helps

hey ! i like POLYSEAMSEAL .... you can get it in a small tube or one that fits in a caulking gun .... its very reasonably priced ! i bought it at lowes but home depo has it too ...... it comes in clear or white & mabey some other colors & its paintable .... i use the "all purpose" but i know there is a special one for bathrooms .... if you want to be real neat you can try a couple of things .... some guys use a wet spoon facing backwards to get a nice finished look, but i found a finger works just fine ! be sure to have a damp rag and some paper towels handy ! (might work on that problem area too) needs to be clean & dry ! good luck

GE or DuPont 100% silicone. Clean and dry well before applying.

Do not use for 24 hours.

The floor the same. Make sure it is totally dry before applying the silicone.

Silicone works best, 20' deep in a landfill, unopened.
