Shaq goes to the Cavs?
Okay, of course there have been no rumors going around with this, but I just don't see how this wouldnt be a great deal for both teams. The trade could go something like this:
Suns Get:
Wally (expiring contract)
Snow (expiring contract)
a 1st or 2nd round pick
Cavs get:
Shaq
The Suns have already publicly said that they might be looking to rebuild, so the two expiring contracts are very very valuable to them next year. Amare (the franchise player) is unhappy with the new offensive scheme and doesnt like sharing the post with Shaq. If they got rid of Shaq, they can go back to not playing D and the run & gun offense.
The Cavs absolutely need a force inside on the defensive end. We get murdered night in and night out when the elite big men come to town (howard, gasol, garnett, duncan, etc) Shaq can shut most of these guys down in the low post. You saw the game Sunday afternoon, the Cavs got out-rebounded to hell because they couldn't box-out, Shaq could fix that.
The Cavs also need a low post scoring option. Shaq is putting up great numbers this year, and the type of offense the Cavs play (halfcourt) fits Shaqs needs a lot better than the situation he's in now.
Shaq has made public that he will retire within the next two years (2010) so his contract will be off the books in time for the Cavs to get an elite free agent in the market for Lebron before his contract is up.
I know I am not a GM obviously and the salary figures and whatnot could be off with the trade, but why isn't this being considered as an option?
He's old but he's good enough to be in the all-star game.
Age is just a number, and it works out perfectly because he'd only be here for a very very short stint, leaving the Cavs room to get someone else when he leaves.
Did you not read what I said?
The Suns are looking to REBUILD, expiring contracts and a draft pick helps them to do this.
If you watch cavs games, Z is a finesse player, hes a liability on the defensive end and hardly has a post game anymore. Elite bigs eat him alive.
Finally a good response Mr. T.. I don't know too much about the taxes that the GM's have to pay on the players, I guess this was something I should have looked at.
Amare cant play any defense and the cavs system doesnt fit him very well. He would have to do alot of adjusting.
The Suns could get a much better deal for Amare than the Cavs could give them
Thanks chaney, I guess this trade doesn't really make too much sense.
I just keep seeing us get out-rebounded and outplayed in the paint against the better teams. I just figured that since shaq is such a big force, he could disrupt alot of that. But you're right, its mostly PF's that are doing the damage.

Well your reasoning seems sound enough, however, let's take a look at a couple of things. First, Cleveland hasn't played San Antonio yet this year, so Duncan hasn't done anything to the Cavs.
But let's look at the Bigs that have played Cleveland this year.
Kevin Garnett: First off, the Cavs are 1-1 against the Celtics, with their only loss being like the first game of the year or something like that. Shaq wouldn't play against Garnett, he'd play against Perkins, and I don't remember Perkins lighting up the Cavs. In fact his stats for the two games are 6-7 for 13 points and 1 (ONE) rebound in the Cavs win, and 1-2 for 2 points and 8 rebounds in the Cavs loss. So clearly Perkins isn't a problem. Garnett for those two games put up 11 and 18, which is a pretty decent defensive job. Cleveland lost the first game because Paul Pierce went off for 27 points, and they won the second game because Paul Pierce was held to just 11 points. Clearly their interior defense is doing the job against Boston.
Dwight Howard: Dwight Howard went off for 22 points and 18 rebounds against the Cavs who were clearly beat up inside. But Howard is arguably the BEST Center in the NBA, and has had these type of nights against a host of NBA teams. Not only that but Big Z wasn't available for that game, so Howard was basically playing against 6-9 Ben Wallace, and 6-11 Anderson Varejao...hardly an indicator of how capable Cleveland is in guarding the best Center in the NBA.
Pau Gasol: In their first matchup, Gasol was 11-13 for 22 points and 12 rebounds, and he had the assistance of fellow big man Andrew Bynum who also had 14 points on 6 of 10, and 6 rebounds. But once again Big Z wasn't available for this contest, so we had an undersized Varejao playing a very good Bynum, and an even smaller Wallace playing against Pau Gasol. Shaq probably could've helped out in this game guarding Bynum and allowing Varejao to guard Gasol (Cleveland's preferred matchup). But look at this last game (I know Bynum was out), Pau was held to 18 points on 5 of 15 (33%) and Big Z more than countered him going 9 of 16 for 22 points with 9 rebounds. The player that stepped up for the Lakers was Lamar Odom. How would Shaq have helped here? Guarding Gasol? No, because Gasol can step out to 10-12 feet and hit that jumper all day, and Shaq won't leave the paint. Shaq guarding Odom? Hell No...That's silly to even consider.
By the way, Shaq can't guard Duncan, Garnett, Odom, or Gasol -- these are all Power Forwards. So if anything, the Cavs weakness is at the Power Forward, not the Center position. Big Z, more than handles his own down there averaging 14 points and 7+ rebounds a game. The Cavs need a more athletic, defensive minded Power Forward who can step out and guard the bigs with range ala Duncan, ala Garnett, ala Stoudemire, ala Nowitzki, ala Gasol, etc...
I know the Laker-game looked bad for the Cavs interior defense, but it was the athleticism of Odom, not the dominance of Gasol, that did them in. Shaq can't help with that...Sorry. The Cavs don't need Shaq, they don't need anything except to talk to Varejao and Wallace about their defensive and rebounding focus. The Cavs have only lost 10 games this year, they are fine.

Nah, Shaq should stay. I think LeBron needs to keep the chemistry he has going with their PG, and not worry about their Center until next year. Age does matter in this professional sport, so a young Center, like Amare Stoudamire would be a better choice for the Cavaliers to look into.

I can see that trade working if the Suns go into complete rebuilding mode and throw in the towel on the season. It would sure free up cap space for them. Shaq would be a vast improvement over that stiff Ben Wallace that’s for sure. But who's gonna come off the bench for the Cavs and hit the three's?

i think of it could be a good short term answer. yet who's familiar with if Shaq can play besides as he did this previous season. i think it somewhat is all approximately motivation for him, and being on the Cavs might desire to actual inspire him.

that would actually work very well for both teams. However, Suns want to trade Amare due to them paying the luxury tax and the owner losing millions of dollars because the recession in this economy. All these trades have nothing to do with the teams or players but it has to do with the organizations and the business aspect of it. Read my question I just posted and you will see what I mean. I like this trade though that would work nice for both teams.

They already got a center in big Z they don't want Shaq. I can't wait for the hack a Shaq again. Kerr has been idiot before but I doubt that he going to trade Shaq for those 2. I don't know maybe your GM don't want him.
