What defines being Christian?...Do you have to be a Saint?
Wow last question stirred up a hornets nest I didn't expect and a lot of interesting answers.
Follow up Question
What level of exact obedience to the teachings of Christ does a person have to have to be considered a Christian? Do they have to already be dead and saved in the Kingdom of God, or is being a living Saint good enough, or am I allowed to make a few mistakes and still claim to be Christian? How far down that slippery path can I go? Can I ignore one doctrine, ten, all of them?
I'm not asking for a line in the sand that says how many bad things can I do and still go to heaven, I'm asking where the line is between the labels Christian and Heathen?
Karl P I'm not interested in joining your religeon thankyou.

I am a Christian. I have confessed my sins and I believe in Jesus Christ as my savior.
Am I perfect? Are you kidding? Paul, the apostle said, "the good I would do, I do not, the evil I would not do, I do". I'm right there with him.
When God looks at me, He does not see my faults, which are many. He sees the righteousness of His son, because His son is my savior.
Anything else with regard to what I do, say and think, that is up to God to judge.

All sin and fall short. Not an excuse, just a fact. Our salvation is a work in progress. That's key - progress. We are to be transformed and that process takes all of our life.
Do we sin?
1 John 2:1
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
Are we Saints?
Colossians 1:
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse:
---------------------------
The line is: When you repent, the Spirit of God is now a part of your life. You will know when you sin. It is personal and spiritual and the longer you walk with God the more sensitive to God's prompting you become.

Well, logically speaking, if every Christian were a saint, then there wouldn't be only a select few of them with that title.
So I'm guessing not.
But your question shows that you're awfully interested in the letter of the law rather than the spirit of it.
Jesus was not a fan of that.
So you might not want to be so specific. It's not a formula.
(Not that I'm a Christian, but I do know a thing or two about Jesus.)

A born-again Christian is someone who has repented of their sins and turned to Christ for their salvation, and as a result has become part of God's family forever. All this takes place as God's Spirit works in our lives.
You see, by nature we aren't members of God's family, and we don't have any right to inherit eternal life. The reason is because of our sin. We have rebelled against God, and because of that, the Bible says, we are "separated from the life of God ... due to the hardening of (our) hearts" (Ephesians 4:18). No, you may not see yourself as a bad person (and you probably aren't)—but in God's eyes even one sin is enough to keep you out of heaven.
But Jesus Christ came to save us and to make us part of His family forever! He did this by dying for our sins on the cross and by conquering death through His resurrection. You see, as a human being you were born into a family—and nothing can ever change that. But when we come to Christ we are spiritually reborn into another family—the family of God. The Bible says to Christ's followers, "You have been born again ... through the living and enduring word of God" (1 Peter 1:23).
My prayer is that you too may be born again and become part of God's family. By a simple prayer of faith, tell God that you know you are a sinner, and you are sorry for your sins. Then ask Christ to come into your life and save you. When you do, God will come to live within you by His Spirit, and you will be born again.

being a christian has nothing to do with how many sins you commit. It is being given grace by God to be born again by the spirit to have faith in Jesus Christ. The initiation of salvation is Grace which by definition is undeserved favor and is done by God and cannot be caused by anything you do or don't do

I am not of the Christian faith, but I have a definition of what a Christian is:
True Christians believe in Jesus and accept his message as a guide to how to live their lives.
Of course, there are many Christians who say they believe in Jesus but don't live according to his message and that's where the hypocrisy comes in.

One that finally realizes that they are 'bankrupt' without Him and with a sincere/convicted heart, invite Him into their heart and immediately one becomes Born Again and a Saint at once!! (Romans 10:9-13.) <')))><
