  • OK, I know that blood cells are made in bone marrow, but how do they get out of the middle of the bones?

Do they just...pop out? Is there some release portal where the new blood cells come out? For that matter, how does blood get in the bones? I mean, they're hard. So how do the cells go back and forth?

  • What's your least favorite candy?

I had spice drops for the first time a couple of nights ago. Disgusting! I thought, hey, I like gum drops OK, I like spice...what could go wrong? Try everything! They tasted like chewy blobs of toothpaste. Gummy spearmint, peppermint, wintergreen, cinnamon, clove, and licorice (no, the purple ones aren't grape!) Nas-tay. What about you?

  • What do you think about liberals being killed while watching kids sing at church?

Have you heard the news about the church shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee? A man walked in with a semi-automatic shotgun and shot into the crowd. Two people are dead and several were injured by gunshot or trampling injuries. Here, look at the link:

What are your thoughts on this crime, which is being investigated by the FBI as a hate crime? Is it OK to shoot liberals because you have a beef with them?

  • What kind of gift should I get for an "adoption celebration" party?

My cousin and his wife are adopting a little boy (he's been living with them as a foster child for a while, but now the adoption is official.) Their new son is about 4 1/2 years old. Should I get something for the boy, or the parents, or what? I've never bought anything for an adoption party before--ideas, please!

  • DeNiro or Pacino?

They're in a movie TOGETHER...it might be the perfect storm! But is one better than the other?

  • What are the correspondences between zodiac signs and parts of the body?

My neighbor was talking about planting by the signs, and she said that, for instance, Gemini corresponds to the feet. But she couldn't find the almanac or calendar or whatever that had the diagram w/ the correspondences, so she didn't remember the other ones.

  • Can anybody ID my "flowering spinach"?

I have some kind of plants growing in my yard that look like spinach with red veins, but they have little clusters of pink flower buds (they haven't bloomed yet, so I'm not sure what they look like, petal #, etc.) Are they wildflowers or intentionally planted? I live in mid-Appalachia, in a valley. They're growing under some of my dogwoods.

  • My uncle was just diagnosed with multiple myeloma...what now?

Does anybody know any good treatment centers/doctors in the West Virginia/Ohio/Virginia area? They're talking about banking marrow stem cells--do they do bone marrow transplants or just treat the person who has it? Good God, he's 54 and he has holes in his skull from the cancer...it sounds really bad. Any suggestions/support? Thanks.

  • What would you do if the two of you had a definite "moment and then he didn't call for four days?

OK, so I haven't seen this guy in, like, 14 years, since I was 15 and he was 17. So I saw him for like, a minute when I had to go by church (his family goes to my church) and he was leaving.

He hugged me and he was like, "I don't want to say 'hi' and just...leave," but he had to go and I said to call me.

Four days later, and the punk hasn't called. Has he been living in New York City for too long? Are "moments" different there than they are around here in our dinky hometown? Is it because he was with his family over the holidays and he...gulp...forgot or something?

And don't tell me to clean my house. I've already been doing that. As well as moping, obsessing, and pouting.

I didn't want to call him if he was, like, busy doing family holiday what-not. But it's the 26th, and we were supposed to see Sweeney Todd and I'm still Depp-less. What is this guy's deal? Do I have to call him? Do I just leave it for another 14 years? GRRRRR!!!! Please advise!

  • Anybody know about CCD (colony collapse disease) in honeybee colonies?

I saw the tail end of a Nature show about how honeybees are dying off due to CCD, and they found some virus but they're not sure that's the only cause of honeybees dying off around the world. Does anybody know of any groups specifically working on this, petitions, legislation, etc.?

I really love bees and 1/3 of the food we eat is pollinated by bees and they said if current rates of die-off continue, there will be no honeybees in the US by 2035.

Anybody know of good ways to get involved w/ this cause? Groups? Activists? Congress members to pester?

  • OK, I will NOT have my mom asking questions about lyrics that I can't answer...what song is this?

She said it was some woman singing something like, "zero to sixty in three-point-five...shut up and drive."

I feel like a cultureless dork for not knowing the answer. I used to know EVERY song she ever came across! No cable, broken car radio...I have no clue what she's talking about. Help!

  • Difficult facial hair issue (on somebody else's face)--does anybody know what I should say?

OK, I already told somebody about her facial hair issues, and I even showed her the wax strip thingies I use on my stray facial hairs (hey, the Venus de Milo doesn't even have arms! Cut a goddess some slack!)

Fast forward to much later...and there's MUCH more hair and it's looking kinda scary. But I've already been over it with her. So do I bring it up again? Just send her a box of wax strips in the mail or something? Do I point out that now she REALLY needs to, uh, shave or something? I mean, I'd want somebody to tell me if I missed some hairs on my chin or whatever, but maybe she's, I dunno, committed to rockin' whatever grows, hippie style. Do I just leave it lying there since I've already said something? Or if I should bring it up again, how do I say it/show it this time?

  • Ugly veneer shelves bolted to the wall...what are my refinishing options?

OK, I kinda need the space, but the ugly orangey "pine" veneer shelves in my bathroom really don't match the actual pine paneling or the "oak" vanity or the oak towel racks and toothbrush holder.

Something's gotta give! Can I refinish veneer (a piece of it is missing off the front of one of the shelves--I'd have to replace that, anyway.)? Or should I just paint over it? If I paint it, what kind of primer should I use?

  • Aces high/low...uh...huh?

OK, so is this just the game on my cell phone, or do aces change value in blackjack? Like, I put down one, and it's worth 11, and I put another on top of it, and it's worth 1.

Is that how it works in other card games? What does the value depend on?

Or is it just like that to confuse me on my cell phone game (Virgin Mobile...oh, can't remember the name. But it's like a cross between Free Cell and 21.)?

  • Clinically speaking, what are the characteristics of anti-social personality/disorder?

Commonly speaking, "anti-social" seems to mean mopey, withdrawn behavior. But I was talking to my therapist, who is pretty well-versed in these things, about my brother, and he said that my bro might be anti-social. He said anti-social people can be very moralistic but feel that they are above morality, and that they can be extremely charming but superficial and not have any actual relationships.

Does he mean, like a sociopath? Like Lisa in Girl, Interrupted? I think there's a bit of a disconnect between how the term is usually used and what it means as a professional term.

Anybody have any experience with this, or know of good books/resources about the topic?

  • Anybody else find this creepy as hell?

I just found out that the people who lived in my childhood house before my family (my parents still live there) owned a monkey, and when it died, they buried it in the front yard.

I've read that monkeys kept as pets are good luck, but ugh! There's a monkey buried in the front yard! That seems...really freaky. Am I overreacting? I don't care if I am. Isn't a monkey buried in the front yard creepy?

  • What's the nastiest thing you've ever tasted?

OK, I had one of those ibuprofen gel-cap things in my mouth while I was getting a drink of water to wash it down. It dissolved and the liquid part got in my mouth--UGH! It was soooo bitter and it burned and it was sooooo nasty! It took forever to wash the taste outta my mouth.

    So what about you?
