im going in tomorrow morning for an induction!!! its for medical reasons and they thought it was best for me and the baby, il be 39 weeks and 1 day which isnt a bad time as its only 6 days off my due date. im just wondering any advice from previous induction mummies?? what should i expect?? not sure what they are going to with methods and what not but im just wondering is there anything i should take in with me extra... i already have two bags holdal bags with one for me and one for the baby.. Just so ive fully covered and dont need to worry about having to need something and sending my partner home for it and he misses all the action( my nightmare recently) thanks...

PS ive packed a the essentials for the baby obviously but what would you recommend for the coming home outfit.. ive packed a sleepsuit and a very wolly blanket or two.. would this be ok???

thanks again ive just got last minute nerves and are trying to calm myself down lol. cheers!

I was induced twice, first with my first when my water broke and had no contractions the second time with my third at 39 weeks because she was getting big, and my first two were big.

I would take something for you to do. It might take like 24 hours for your labor to really get started ( or it could only be like 5 before the baby is out like both times I was induced) Like a book or playing cards etc.. the beginning is really boring especially if they have to use the gel to ripen your cervix, if they skip it and go straight to pitocin it will take less time before you start feeling strong contractions.

I always liked my inductions better because that way there was no guessing if I should go to the hospital and if I was going to make it... ( like with my second I barely made it )

Just dont forget a camera, a babybook for you to fill out and get his foot prints in, and toiletries etc.. And make sure you dont forget to have your husband pack a bag for himself too. Also some snacks are good to take for him because they cost a fortune at the hospital.

For going home outfit I wold take at least two or even three different outfits. You dont know exactly how big the baby will be so that way you have choices( some outfits are different sizes even if the tag says they are the same) Like with my daughter I had two newborn outfits, she was swimming in the other one and the other one was ok

Just good luck and dont worry, It'll go fine. Also if you need an epidural, it wont slow your labor down, in case someone has told you different. I went from 6 to 10 within an hour after getting it with both, first and last.

I was induced for pre eclampsia. They admitted me and then gave me dinner. After dinner, cervadil (sp?) was inserted (not a pleasant experience) and I was given a sleeping pill. I slept most of the night, pain free, and was just woken up for blood pressure checks. The next morning I was allowed to shower and then had a 2nd dose of cervadil. I had breakfast and lunch and spent the morning reading or watching TV - again no pain. After lunch I started to feel some cramping and soon after my water broke. From that point I was given Pitocin via an IV drip and had a catheter inserted. No eating or drinking after this point. Within an hour or so I was in pain and had reached 3 cm. I chose to have an epidural then, which stopped the pain and I slept for several hours. When I woke up it was late evening and I was 8 cm. I had the baby at 3am the next morning.

Induction takes time. Be prepared to be there for awhile. For me it was 31 hours, which I think is fairly normal. I sent my husbsand home the first night, knowing that I wouldn't be in active labor until the next day. That way he was rested for the hard part. I took way too much stuff with me and didn't need very many things. One mistake I made was not having several going home outfits in various sizes. My son was 2 weeks early and looked ridiculous in all of the outfits, which were too big for him. Bring at least one newborn outfit.

    Good luck and congrats!

To begin the induction they will most likely start by placing a gel on the cervix to help it to start opening and softening very quickly...sometimes that's all it takes, but if that takes too long they will most likely break your water, it doesn't hurt at all, but it does feel weird when it breaks, it feels like you are peeing yourself...lol.

They also might try putting you on "the drip" which is an IV solution that brings on labour quite quickly.

The best advice I have for you is to walk as much as you can. I had VERY high blood pressure with my first daughter so when I was induced they wouldn't even hardly let me leave the bed except to pee. I credit that to my not progressing fast enough.

Good luck! Very soon you'll be holding your new little baby girl/boy!!!

Good Luck. Pitossin is what I had with my second. The only thing I didn't like about it, is that it made my contractions come hard and fast. But I know you'll be alright. And if you n

eed something for the don't wait just do it. Good Luck Again!

EDIT: I agree with Ashly walk if they will let you also, have your partner stand infront of you holding you, You lean into him and rock side to side while standing, it helps the baby move down into place.

They did break my waters with two stick things thou and i had that gel stuff too into my cervix to speed things up i was in labour but no waters broken my first baby took me 48hrs to deliver !!

    my second 2 hrs ha!

  • Make sure dad brings stuff for himself too! Just the essential baby stuff and stuff for you should be fine! If your cervix has not softened then they will probably give you cervidil(sp) to soften your cervix, but if your cervix is already thinned out then most likely they will just give you pitossin(sp)
