Did L die in the manga, after Rem wrote his name on the Death Note? or was it like in the anime where he wrote his own name on the Death Note??

In the anime and the manga L is killed by Rem because Rem is convinced if she doesn't kill him Misa would be discovered by L as the second Kira.
IN THE MOVIE how ever, L writes his own name in the death note there fore preventing Rem to kill him.
