Agree or disagree with the following statement and why?

The [US] Constitution is a charter of negative liberties, says what the states can’t do to you, says what the federal government can’t do to you, but it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf.

Obama said that, in reference to the redistribution of wealth, especially as it applies to the civil rights movement. Pretty scary that we have a man as president who does not believe in the integrity of the Constitution. This country was not built on what can I get from the government, but instead, what can I do to make this country and my life better. If this does not tell you how Obama feels about entitlement programs nothing does.

As an American I have the the right to the pursuit of happiness. Pursuit does not mean that it is handed to you. Pursuit is a noun ( an action word) Which means in order to obtain that happiness you must be actively involved in obtaining happiness, it does not mean that it is handed to you.

    Whatever happened to:

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!"

    Have we instead gone to:

"Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you?"

Pretty much, the framers obviously knew that statutory law would take over on that, and just made sure that people couldn't make illegal laws by saying what the government couldn't do... everything else is open to interpretation... there have been some interesting cases heard over whether a police department has a "duty" to protect the citizens (i.e. when someone is killed because the cops don't come to a call) and the Supreme Court, I believe, has ruled that they don't have a duty to do so.. kind of bizarre.

Strongly disagree... The U.S. Constitution was very well designed. It is not perfect but it nearly is. Too bad politicians in D.C. don't follow it, if they did our country would be in much better shape! Well there is one who follows it: Ron Paul! When he votes on legislation he pulls out the constitution and compares the two. If they don't line up, he votes no!

Obama said that and I could not possibly disagree more.

It's quite sad that our president feels that way about the Constitution. It just serves as proof that has no interest in preserving, protecting and defending it.
