If you get over the flu, can you still get it right after?

Its been horrible!!! First our daughter got it, even though she was vaccinated. Apparently, you can only get vaccinated for one strand. Anyway, so it's been going down the line to each family member this whole week. My question is, after one recovers, can they, "re get it". I have the flu right now. For about THREE days! But, my oldest son just came down with it today. Ya'll, its killing me not being able to hug and kiss my family! I want to kiss and hug him, but i dont want to make his worse or re get it. Or give it back to my other two children. Am I over thinking this. Sigh, maybe the fever is getting to me. I hate the flu!

Once you get that particular strand and recover from it, chances are you won't get the brunt of that strand again in the immediate future. You can however get a "relapse" of that strand and become somewhat sick, but not nearly as bad as the first time. As your body goes into defense mode and starts kicking some flue @ss inside your body, it develops an immunity to it. Hence the reasoning for flu shots. They take a weakened or dead strand of whatever they think may be the most popular for that year and mass produce it in chicken eggs, then inject it or inhale it to develop an immunity for it before it even gets to you. The problem is with literally hundreds if not thousands of strands to choose from it's a crap shoot sometimes. And the flu virus is great at mutating. Sometimes when they do get the strand right, you can vaccinate all you want, but it could be mutated into a different strand by the time it gets to you. Ok...I'm done with my text book for now.....

I hope you and your family get well soon!!!

    Getting Over The Flu

He won't "re-get" it, unless you have a different or mutated strain of the flu. The vaccine immunizes you agianst the strains of the flu that they decide will be most likely. If they guess wrong, a strain other than the 2-3 in the vaccine will still make you sick.

It depends on whether your stain is the one with the congestion/cough as well. THAT one hit OUR family and I got it about 3 times...or maybe you could call it a relapse. Just when I thought I was better, it seemed to come back with a vengeance. On a good note, my seven year old was only sick for 2 days, and she bounced right back and didn't get it again. All I can advise is to wash hands, wash hands, wash hands...and disinfect the TV remote, door knobs, and phone too.daily..stuff everyone in the family touches the most!

You could catch a different flu, but, once you have had a certain one you are immune to it. The problem with flu is there are a lot of different ones and the shot doesn't cover them all.
