OMG!! that's hard but i would have to get the fat cat bc i wouldn't have to give away the puppy.
BUT...monkeys are so cool and like you said they are like children.
i love monkeys and i would probably be the same way you are. i wouldn't know what to do. but like i said i most likely not give up the puppy and go for the fatty.
(why would you have to give away the puppy?(why cant you give away the puppy and get the fat cat and the monkey?)

Basically, you should get the cat...
For a start, what species of monkey are you talking about? There are hundreds. None of them are recomended as pets. A dealer trying to make money will tell you different, but they are not going to be easy to keep. They need suitable diets, specialised housing (maybe heated) and company of their own species. You shouldn't get just one. Many of them have sharp teeth. Larger ones are very strong for their size: a chimp can litrally tear your arm off. None are infants for 20 years. Sure, some people do dress them up like babies. But that's a baby that can bite your finger off if it gets pissed off. And do you really want to be changing nappies for 20 years? Besides the fact that it's better for them to be in a suitable enclosure, without clothes, and with mates of their own... Wait a few years, and you can have a real baby. Having a monkey could be inconvenient then...
Oh yes, monkeys can also carry diseases that humans can catch, including some real nasties.
There's a reason why lots more people have cats than monkeys. It's because cats make better pets. I'm also pretty sure someone who's happy to 'get rid' of a destructive dog, is not going to have what it takes to put up with an even more destructive monkey for 20-40 years. Monkeys are less trainable than dogs, and can climb and open doors and locks...
If you are really into monkeys, keep your dog. Show how well you can look after it (and maybe a new cat), and look at becoming a zoo keeper when you are older. You could also 'adopt' a monkey or ape in a rescue centre: I've included a link to one in the UK below.

Most places in the US outlaw ownership of most kinds of monkeys, not to mention the work involved in keeping one would be insane. I would get a cat without even a second thought and maybe you could sponsor a monkey at your local zoo. Sometimes they let you go in and feed it or help take care of it and it would give you a good experience to learn a little more about them. But get the cat, not even a contest in my mind.

What you need to do is ask your local animal care control, if it is legal for you to own a monkey. Monkey is hard to take care of, and destructive in the house, and should be considered an outside animal. It is not a pet, and I would consider a cat...
In most big city like NYC.. this is banned.

I know a monkey might sound really awesome but the reality is he will probably be worse than your puppy!!! i know they are cute and adorable but they even throw their poop (srry for the language) at you and that would be kinda nasty lol! so i think that getting a fat cat would be a better option!
hope this helps<333
