What is the best way to get red icing?
I have tried to put food coloring in white icing but it only gets it dark pink. I need red icing for a themed dinner. Does anyone have any tricks to getting real red icing?

I really hope that this themed party isn't for this coming Thursday evening, because some of the people in attendance are allergic to the color red....... unless of course, you are trying to become an only child.... but then if you did, I might just drive you and your quiet little family crazy.
So you might want to think this through before you do anything rash.

Keep adding the red food coloring until it turns red. Ive made red icing before and I had to use a lot of the food coloring to get the red I wanted.

I would say to put a little bit of black and a little bit of purple and lots of red to get that nice dark red you are looking for. Make sure you don't use the liquid food coloring because that will make your icing very soft and hard to work with and you don't want that.

I got the gel food coloring and made a red frosting with it. I think I even used most of the little tube. Just keep adding the dye until you get the color you want. Good luck!

was it red food coloring you were using? i'm assuming it was... you just have to use A LOT of it..... or go out and buy a different kind of coloring... are you using the liquid kind or the wilton kind? it's easier to get red with the wilton kind...
