Tom Seaver-one of the most dominant pitchers ever, plus he played for the Mets which is a big plus
Pedro Martinez-in the late '90s-early '00s he was unhittable
Nolan Ryan-best power pitcher of all time
Randy Johnson-one of the best lefties ever
Bob Gibson

Age would definitely be a huge factor but I would probably rank them like this... 1. The Cy Young Starter (I really hate people that say starting pitchers are overrated because they are not on the field everyday. Well guess what? The position players are on the field everyday to what? Get 1 hit in 3 at bats? The contribution of a ace starting pitcher every 5 days is greater than a top player everyday) 2. The Speedy CF (It's close between him and the SS but to have a OBP of .400 at the top slot is crucial. There are some mashers that doesn't even have that high of an OBP. Plus 50 steals and only 25 whiffs? I mean 25 whiffs! Ryan Howard can do that in a week! With that kind of speed, that kind of OBP, and the fact this guy almost always puts the ball in play, the average might even be higher. Plus Gold Glover) 3. Shortstop (Those numbers aren't special but I believe more and more than leadership is crucial in this era of baseball with the media being so much of the clubhouse) 4. Power hitting 1B (Those are good numbers but that's a lot of strikeouts. And 40 homers now is not even league leader leader type numbers) 5. Closer (50 Ks to me is unacceptable. Plus he's a closer. There are new closers for a lot of teams every season. I don't think I can build a team around a guy who contributes so little)

Nolan Ryan - Has a billion of no hitters and perfect games
Randy Johnson (In his prime) - Was a K machine
Tom Seaver- Greatest mets pitcher ever
Cy Young- Has 501 wins & named after a trophy !
Greg Maddox- Has around 320ish no one will ever reach that either
Damn I wish the mets had a pitching rotation like this ! Lol

Bob Gibson - most intimidating pitcher ever
Walter Johnson
Satchel Paige
Nolan Ryan
Randy Johnson
Other considerations: Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez
I'm a big fan of the power pitchers.

Sandy Koufax - Pre-injury, the most dominant pitcher to ever play the game of baseball.
Dwight Gooden - Similar dominance to Sandy, and similarily his career was cut short
Roger Clemens - Hate the man. Nothing but contempt for him, but his brilliance was unarguable
Greg Maddux - No one has ever pitched a more intelligent game of baseball than him.
Tim Lincecum - Yeah, it's early to crown him as one of the top 5 pitchers of all time, but having watched him, he has electrifying stuff, better than Clemens or Gooden, and barring injury we might be looking at the greatest pitcher to ever play the game of baseball. It's premature, but I'm crowning him now.
(However, if I didn't choose Tim, then either Randy Johnson or Pedro Martinez would have to battle out for the last spot)
Source(s): You'll note that Koufax is the oldest pitcher I had, and even using him is a stretch. Face the facts, old pitchers have NOTHING on todays modern pitcher. Cy Young, Dizzy Dean, Satchel Paige were great 'for their day'. Against todays pitcher, these guys probably would have to stretch just to stay out of the bullpen. Sorry, them's the facts. It's called evolution. - 1 decade ago
Nolan Ryan - the best pitcher I've ever seen
Tom Seaver - my childhood hero and one of the best ever
Roger Clemens - sick, sick stuff even without the steroids
Randy Johnson - hell, the guy knocked a bird out of mid-air with an explosion of feathers. Bird can usually even beat jet airplanes (see recent events in New York).
Greg Maddux - the most cerebral pitcher of his generation.
I only list pitchers I've actually seen play.

Greg Maddux - His numbers speak for himself
Bob Gibson - Pure Dominance
Curt Schilling - Big game winner
Orel Herschieser - Dominant pitcher at his prime
Cy Young - They named a trophy after him

All in their prime, obviously. In no particular order:
Satchel Paige
Tom Seaver
Nolan Ryan
Randy Johnson
Dwight Gooden - In his first few years in the league he was UNHITTABLE!
