Are Dearborn Heaters Safe?

I grew up with them.

We have moved into a house with one using propane

Any information would be helpful!

    IF a Dearborn heater is not damaged, is in good condition, the burner air intake and burner gas outlet holes are not clogged, and has the proper orifice [jet] for Propane, AND is PROPERLY ADJUSTED, then yes, it is safe.

    One more caveat, Dearborn space heaters radiate a lot of heat and if located too close to combustible materials [wood, cloth, paper, cardboard, etc.] it could cause a fire. Therefore, it is important that it be installed properly.
