Why do people like/hate Twilight?

I think Twilight is ok, but I have a few questions.

For Twilight lovers,

Why do you like Twilight? What is it that you like about it? Why do you find it so interesting? Do you like the book better or the movie?

For Twilight haters,

Why do you hate Twilight? What is it that you hate about it? Do you hate the book or the movie?

ANd by Twilight, I mean the whole series.

so, I do NOT like Twilight, and being a "hater", these are my reasons:

Bella is a classic Mary-Sue and she has no personality...

(she is pretty without trying and she doesn't think she is, she is overly smart, she is the "ordinary girl")

Edward is "flawless and godlike", he also does not have any depth...

the books were written poorly and SM uses a lot of the same adjectives throughout the entire series...

the books are basically purple prose...

there are many plot holes in the book, because SM didn't think them over enough...

the plot itself is cheesy and unoriginal...

(eg: she is the new girl and immediately all of the guys fall in love with her, as does the "hottest" most "unattainable guy"..)

the vampires are hardly vampires...(sparkling instead of burning)

Bella and Edward's love is at first purely physical...(Bella smells good, Edward looks good)

the books sends bad messeges to teenagers:

Twilight: "yes, it is OK for guys to stalk you, watching you in your sleep"

New Moon: "without guys, teenage girls will spiral into suicide"

Eclipse: " it is OK to try and commit suicide for the one you love"

Breaking Dawn: "girls should get pregnent and married at a young age"

anyone who doeesn't like the main character is "bad" (eg: Rosalie)

there is no originality in the story (how many vampire-mortal love stories have there been?...many, many, many...)

how Bella seems to need Edward every-second-of-every day...

naming the character Bella Swan is so cliché...

there is also Edward's stalking issues...

real couples aren't like Bella and Edward in real life...(love isn't like that)

the ending was too perfect...(she led the story to a big climax, then the main characters talked it over, and went home...she couldn't bear to kill of her main characters...)

it's also the fans as well...

there is a whole hoard of screaming fangirls, who probably only like the books for Edward...(and yes I know that what I just said is a blanket statement, I know that not all fans are obsessive, teenage girls, but most of the Twilight fans on Y!A are)

the fangirls are vicious and just as cruel (crueler) as the "haters"

hearing about Twilight 24/7 will drive anyone who is not a fan up the wall...

and it's annoying when Twilight-fans can't understand why I don't like the series....

and it's kinda scary watching the obsessive people give answers in this section...

(eg: some girl answered a question saying something like: "NO WAY! EDWARD'S MINE! HE'S GONNA PUT HIS BABIES IN ME, AND I'M GONNA PUSH THEM OUT THOUGH MY BIRTH CANAL!!!")

another thing that I don't like is when Twilight fans compare Harry Potter to Twilight, then say that Twilight is better...

Being a Harry Potter fan, I really don't like that, seeing as Harry Potter is one of my favorite series, and Twilight is...not...

I don't hate the books because they are popular...I HAVE READ THE BOOKS...okay?

It really is annoying when people say that the only reason that "haters" don't like Twilight is because they are too popular or because they haven't read the books...

to the people who say that Twilight takes them to another world:

this always happens with all the books I read...Twilight was no different, every book I have ever read has been an escape from reality, it's not just Twilight...

I dislike Twilight because it it overrated and the fangirls are constantly saying that it is the best book/series ever. It is not. Twilight is nothing compared to original classical literature. I can't stand it when Twilight fans spew that it is the best book ever when they have not read anything other than Twilight. The main character Bella also is a blatant Mary Sue and a self insert which I just don't care for in literature. I also disagree with the messages and things the books encourage such as being completely dependent on your lover, women needing a guy to protect them always, and how an abusive relationship is romanticized. I actually read and enjoyed the book when I was twelve and it was not popular.

I think it is mainly the fan girls, especially the ones on this site, that have killed the series and caused most of the non-twilighters to speak their opinions as loudly as they have. It really annoys people when the same questions (which team are you?, Isn't edward hawt?, etc.) are asked over and over again. It's like most of the fans cannot use the search bar, especially when it comes to the never ending "is midnight sun coming out?" question. That questions just irks me every time I see it.

I dislike both the movie and the series, having experienced both. The movie was hilarious to me because all I could focus on was Kristen's (Bella's) constant quivering and shaking of her head throughout the film. It looked like to me that she was having a seizure.

I think that the book Twilight is a pretty good book but so are many others Ive read. It really is a good series a good read, but yes it is very predictable. I also agree that many adjectives get a bit overused and Breaking Dawn is a bad example that promotes teen marriage and teen pregnancy. Furthermore, I also agree the characters are very shallow. Despite all this, I still think that Twilight ( NM, E, BD ) are all great books and whether people like it or not will survive for a very long time. BTW to all the people who are obsessed with Edward really need to move on. Ive read the book, I know he's hot, but if you were to meet him ( granted that he wasn't a fictional character ) and you were to try and romance him, he would drink your blood and NO he would not change you into a vampire. OK well, I'm just saying, but my point is, everyone has an opinion and people might as well live with the fact that millions of people are going to continue to blog about it.

I like Twilight. I read the books, and you have to admit that they were very well written. But I'm not obsessed, like some of those hard-core Twilighters out there, and I think that's what annoys the people who don't like Twilight. I find it interesting, because it's an amazing situation. A vampire and a mortal human in love. Just the concept of a hot vampire that sweeps a girl off her feet will get any type of girl involved with the book, because secretly that's what all girls want: To have a handsome and perfect boyfriend that will live happily ever after together.

The movie was good in the action department, but they left out a lot of key parts that left many Twilight fans disappointed. I like the overall concept of the book, and I think that Stephanie Meyer is a talented writer. If people dislike Twilight, then they should leave it at that. They don't need to slander the whole book, like it was just something that the author wrote on a whim. Yes you're entitled to your own opinion, but please be respectful while representing your thoughts.

Thanks to grace for not expressing your opinion with, "TWILIGHT SUCKS!" and actually making some very good points, some of which I actually agreed with.

I used to love Twilight. Now, I just think its okay. I hate the movie but I love the books. I don't know what it is about it but I was addicted to it and just started loving the series. I like the plot, the way it was written, everything. Except I hated the 2nd book, New Moon. It was horrible. Twilight got kinda old after awhile so now, I don't like it as much.

    Well, I love Twilight

Because whenever I read Twilight I am not in my world any more I am in Forks, Washington sitting beside Edward Cullen. ( dose that make sense ? )

I like it because Bella dont believe in vamires at all and then to find out that they are real and that one is in love with her is just a real cool thing to imagn.

I loved the movie UNTIL I read the book now the book stomps the movie all together !

As you can see by my name, I hate Twilight. I think it is the most poorly written book with a horrible plot and stupid false facts about vampires. I hate both the books and the movie. The movie ( my friend forced me to watch it with her, she said she would pay me) ,was the worst thing I had ever seen. It had horrible special effects and the whole thing looked so fake.

    I HATE TWILIGHT!

    - I hate Twilight. :D

I'm going to answer honestly although i know people are going to boo me....

i've enjoyed reading the Twilight series because i've find them quite fascinating and its the longest books i've read in my life...

i like the book better, because in the movie alot of pieces didn't fit in with the book's descrjptions

for example: BOOK) the kitchen cabinets were bright yellow

    MOVIE)they were faded green

i still like the movie but not as much

I love the books!!!! but the movie how ever became nothing but madness and the special effects were not that good. I like the fact i can relate to bella a lot and i enjoy the relationship between bella and edward. Stephenie Meyer puts so much detail in it that you feel like your in the movie. I find Edward the most interesting because at first you don't know what his problem is. Then once you find out the truth it just draws me in more.

I guess Twilight's alright. I just hate how so many teens go crazy when Twilight is mentioned. But I like how the story is written. I dislike the movie passionately. It sucked ***. :D
