Car wont start? 2004 GTO?
I have a 2004 Pontiac GTO, drive it maybe once a week for maybe 30 miles. Car is dead everytime i go to start it. Hook up jumper cables and leave jumping car on for 20 mins GTO still wont start. Electronics come on inside though and car sounded like it almost started it up but now just sounds like its ticking. What is it alternator or battery, and what should i do? Car doesnt have a battery volts gauge anywhere.
When i went to connect red cable to GTO while jumping horn was going off like alarm the whole time it was connected until i pushed a button on keyless remote? whats the deal here?
car only has 24,000 miles on it as well

Better get a new battery and clean those battery terminals really shiny. your 2004 battery is done. Optima battery 6 pack design (red top) is best however there are many batterys that will do just fine. Jumping off a car that has no voltage may cause the alarm system to think your stealing the car.

I doubt its the alternator. And starting your car with jumper cables isn't bad for either car as was previously stated. I would give the battery a good hot charge with a charger for a few hours. If you have a multimeter, check to see you have over 12 volts. Now have someone try and start the engine while you are watching the meter. If it drops below 9 volts while cranking, your battery is no good. When its running, make sure the voltage is around 13 volts. Let it run for a while, then come back and check it again to see if the voltage dropped. If it did, its your alternator. Or, just pull off a battery cable while running. If it dies, its the alternator.

Ok your alternator has failed and now you have killed the battery.Get any battery that will hold some charge and put in your car .Start your car and drive it to your local auto electrician and get him to check the alternator for charge. That only takes a couple of minutes and you dont have to turn the car off(in case it wont start again).Once your got a good alternator in and working, buy a new battery. Then when you go for your weekly drive,it WILL start every time no fuss.

When you try to crank the engine over and it clicks, that is the starter solenoid trying to pull more amps for the starter, but you battery is not charged enough. Try taking the battery out and charging it with a battery charger. Then leave it out of the car and test it to see if it holds a charge. Sounds to me like you need a new battery since you have to do this every week.

You may also be suffering from a factory setting that doesnt turn off the body control module (BCM) until the car has been sitting for 90 to even 120 minutes. This causes the battery to drain pretty fast and the only way to get the value changed is by going to the dealer and dropping some coin. Although you may still be under warranty but IDK if that would be covered.

my 2004 gto did the exact same thing until i took it to a car electronics store, turns out the kid who owned it before me had subwoofers installed(then took em out when he sold it) and the co ax cables and the fuse were creating a drain on the battery. cost $60 to fix and the car starts first time, every time now

warn out battery?
Your car seems really young to be having to jump.
Plus jumping is bad for the other car's battery.
I don't know much about car's but it seems like your wiring is messed up.

could it be your starter?
