Why Israel is building new settlements in the West Bank?
Is it legal?

No, it isn't legal. The reason they are doing it is because they want to annex as much land as they can, they say it is impossible to give it back as so many people are settled there. They are making the Palestinian land smaller and smaller. They are baiting them into fighting, so they can kill them. Some will leave out of desperation, and when the numbers dwindle, they will expel those that remain. I believe the legal word for it is ethnic cleansing.

Why is Israel building new settlements in the West Bank? Because it is our land. We have every right to build there. Israel does not complain about what the Jordanians build in Jordan, or the Egyptians in Egypt, or anyone else in their country.
This is our land and on it we shall build whatever we like.
As Professor Mordechai Kedar said when he was interviewed by Al-Jazeera:
“My brother, Israel doesn’t count the buildings that Qatar chooses to build on the Qatar Peninsula, so why do you count what we build in Jerusalem? Jerusalem is our eternal city forever and ever, and what we do there is not the business of Al-Jazeera or anyone else, period! The city belongs to Jews only!”
"The West Bank does not belong to any country in the world. There is no sovereignty over that area, just like Antarctica in the south. Jordan was in control of the area until 1967, but no country has sovereignty there, unlike the Golan and Sinai. Therefore, no one can say that this is occupied territory. From which country was it conquered? Jordan conquered it until 1967, and now it is under Israeli rule, and does not belong to any other country in the world. And therefore we can build there whatever we want."

Jews imagine the West Bank of the Jordan River to have been part of their mythological Kingdom of Israel,of which history reveals no trace. In their minds in is "Jewish territory" - apparently this in the tribal sense, since it is actually legally recognized by the UN and it's members as the Palestinian Territories and most definitely not a part of what is now called israel. There is no such legal entity as "Judea" and "Samaria". Zionists thrive on exploiting ancient mythology for crude land-grabs. The "settlements" are illegal.

It is illegal ,and israel has over 400 UN resolutions against it for its crimes. Now with this last gaza attrocity many israelis are wanted world wide for war crimes against humanity, so many IDF members cant leave israel right now. and israel can been pretty sucky, surrpounded by those walls the jew built....
the jewish illegal settlers are known to burn the Palestinians olive orchards, stone their children on the way to school, steal the palestinian water and all the while getting help from a very powerful army that is welfared by american tax dollars- the IDF . the injustice has to stop. spread the word.

Because they can flaunt international law to their heart's content, owing to two factors: the UN is in itself powerless to enforce international law and the U.S. will shield the Israelis from any consequence of flaunting the law; they do as they please with U.S. support. No,the settlements are very highly illegal. The UN has consistently so ruled from 1969 to the present. It's a violation of the Forth Hague Convention. It is as though having conquered Iraq the U.S. were to refuse to permit Iraqi refugees in Jordan and Syria to return and then turned their homes over to American "settlers" while developing policies sufficiently prejudicial as to drive out the remaining Iraqis, all this proceeding with the ultimate goal of gradually depopulating Iraq of Iraqis while concurrently repopulating it with Americans, ultimately annexing it as U.S. territory and eventually rendering it the 51st state. The Zionists are establishing "settlers" as part of a policy to achieve what they call "facts on the ground" - a de facto annexation of the WB followed by de jure annexation. The issue of self-determination won't get in the way because by the time they formally annex it there will be very, very few Palestinians left there. A referendum would obviously favor annexation.

The reason that settlements are being built, according to an Israeli government website It states that it does that because they believe it increases security around the borders. The last time when they dismantled settlements in Gaza, Hamas overthrew Fatah and turned it into a ground for launching rockets.

If it isn't legal a Zionist will say the law is wrong. So what does it matter?

Because no one is willing to stop them except the Palestinians but when they try to stop them they are called terrorists.

These settlements are NOT NEW. If a final peace process was to endure......these lands will be given over to Israel. Some Israeli lands near the border will be given to whoever controls the palestinians. Therefore, they have agreed to put MORE settlers there, in the event that palestinian arabs declare a different peace process.

Because it is called Judea and Samaria region, Judean land, Judah is our largest tribe, we are Jews, that is our namesake.
West Bank is an artificial English name and only reason there so many Arabs there is because of the hostilities where Christians and Jews were displaced. We have a right to settle on our own land and I'd rather have a Christian as a neighbor who knows what the meaning of "love thy neighbor" is than an extremist Muslim who just keeps suiciding / homiciding everybody, so don't argue with me about it..

Edit: I said not to argue about it now you just forced me to deny your existence again. Palestinians are hostile Syrian land grabbers that Jordan would have taken because Jordan did claim them but they were too hostile for Jordan (peace treaty with Israel) and they tried to assassinate King Hussein and used Jordanian soldier's head as soccer practice. Then after that Arafat goes over to Lebanon and tries to take over that country too by saying "the road to Palestine leads thru Jonieh." But before I deny the Palestinian existence I just want to remind everyone of the UN function, they attempt to resolve disputes but if the people don't accept them there is nothing that a handshake, photo op, and a piece of paper can do to make peace. Britain already told the UN prior to the vote "it is not international territory therefore not internationalist's place to divvy up the land." The UN votes are invalid for that reason, AND the fact that the Arabs never accepted it either. Israel isn't required to "donate land" to a hostile regime that Israel won in a war.

"Palestine is Jordan and Jordan is Palestine; there is only one land, with one history and one and the same fate," Prince Hassan of the Jordanian National Assembly was quoted as saying on February 2, 1970.
