How long can you live with out water?

My son and I are having a debate about how long some one can survive in california under normal circumstances with out water? Food or water. Thank you for your answers.

    about a month, longer if you had water.. and no food

    You can survive for three days with out water.

    I heard about the "rule of three." Three days without water, three weeks without food. thats not exact, just a general estimation for the average person.
