Fashion designers on the runways?

Well designers are creative people that make their creations come to life. Sometimes they are exaggerated but like you said they are just for the runway. Department stores or boutiques that want to carry their line go to these show to select the pieces they want. When they sell them to the public they don't sell the whole runway look they give variety so the consumer can mix and match whatever they want. Oftentimes the looks you only see on the runway are also targeted to celebrities not the average person because celebrities have to attend to a lot of events.

And like some of the people here said designers also make "street clothes" they have what's call RTW "Ready-to-wear" shows, just like they did this week in New York.

haute couture is 'high fashion' i know it would look a bit weird if you seen people wearing these designs down the street :S

to be honest, i dont know where designers get the money to make these incredible designs. Have you seem Dior's haute couture collections?!?!

Its true that the designs are only worn once and then they are stored for photo shoots in magazines or for advertising etc.

and if someone likes some of the designs on the runway, the designer makes the piece specifically for the person

maybe that is where they ge their money from as haute couture is soo expensive?

the designers also design street clothes.

the clothes worn on runways are for entertainment. its artsy. their makeup is outrageous too. wouldn't you rather go to a runway show and see that instead of clothes you see everyday?
