What is a good vacuum for 2 adult, 2 kids and a cat?

I need a good vacuum to pick up a lot of crumbs and hair, the vacuum I have now picks up crumbs nice but leaves clumps of hair everywhere, its really old too so I'd like a good, decently priced vacuum.

URLs to websites and pic are appreciated!

Update:

I got a great steamer for $180, and I am not going to vacuum everyday, once a week, maybe twice depending on how dirty my daughter gets it.

Hi, A friend who has pets and kids bought a Eureka boss smart vac ultra 4870 and she loves it. She said it was recommended by consumer reports magazine and rated right up there with higher priced vacuums. It outperformed the Dyson animal. It was priced around 150.00 and really cleans carpets and bare floors with the flick of a switch. Has hepa filtration for allergies, 8 carpet settings, convenient tools and ability to control suction when using tools. Eureka also rated in the top two for the fewest repairs. You can check out consumer reports magazine online or for free at your local library. Hope this helps.

Honestly, any decently priced (in my opinion $50-150) vacuums are horrible. I have had so many of those vacuums before deciding to buy a good one.

I vacuum everyday and have been through more vacuums than anybody has in their lives (so far the count is 10!) and the best ones have all cost more than $350.

My favorite is the Electrolux EL6988-#(any letter there, doesn't matter, the letters indicate different sellers), it is about $450 and available at BJ's or bestbuy.com

Here is the link for Best Buy:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6471...

Source(s): I have it and it is the BEST vacuum I have used.

I got one of the Bissell Healthy Home sweepers and I really like it! Not terribly expensive, regular price is around $250 but if you watch, you can get it for around $200 on sale.

It does a great job on pet hair and dirt, has a sealed HEPA filtration system to trap all kinds of nasty stuff. Solidly built, good on board tools, 5 year warranty and a life time belt.

Tip: Regular and thorough sweeping will help keep your carpets cleaner. I would suggest sweeping at least twice a week. We have a lot of pets and I sweep usually every other day just to keep the pet hair under control.

I absolutely love my Dyson. They are a little bit expensive. But very worth it. I always thought my rugs were clean untill I got the Dyson. I was amazed at how much dirt was in them. It picks up dog hair great. Not a bit left on the rugs. I even use it to vacuum the dog,

They do suck up anything. You have to make sure the floors have nothing on them. I ran it under my sons bed and it sucked up a sock! It went all the way in and it never stopped running.
